Startup Stories: A handbag addiction that led to a business start-up

The perfect day to night handbag companion.

Tell us about your entrepreneurial product or service.
I have just launched the Hidee Handbag www.hidee.net

Hidee has been designed for stylish, busy women. The handbag is separated into an upper and lower compartment.

The lower compartment carries high heels and other necessities to stay stylish throughout the day and into the evening.

If heels are not required, the lower compartment can hide private possessions. The compartment is secret and spacious, excellent for items that need to be kept very safe and private. Or just practical items like umbrellas, gloves etc. No more rummaging!!

Hidee is the first handbag of it's kind.

The handbag is made from luxury Italian leathers that have been hand worked for the unique finishes.

Hidee jewellery is made from beautiful stones and has been designed to add grace and glamour to any outfit. Day or night, bride or party-girl, Hidee jewellery completes your style.

What inspired you to launch your business idea?
I am addicted to beautiful heels and enjoy the glamour and elegance they add to every outfit. Jeans to flowing silk, heels make the look.

Having spent years choosing between practical shoes to commute in and the beautiful heels in my cupboard, I thought there had to be a way to design a handbag that would let me enjoy my heel investments and have happy feet.

The pleasure of heels without the pain of sore feet was my driving motivation for this design. I wear flats or blocks walking, wear heels indoors and avoid the punishing pavements, it is the perfect shoe combination for style and comfort. Hidee carries heels with ease and it is quick to style switch.

The inspiration for my jewellery came from the towns I grew up in. Cork and Kerry are full of colourful streets and rugged coastlines. No better inspiration for my organic shaped gem stones and pearls with pops of colour. All my designs are easy to wear on any occasion. My jewellery is graceful and versatile.

What problem does your business or organization solve?
Women invest a lot in shoes and evening glamour that is often left in the cupboard. Research has shown that 6 out of every 10 pairs of shoes sit in the wardrobe rarely worn.
Women buy for style and often beautiful heels are not suitable for uneven and unyielding pavements.
My handbag helps women make more of their style investments and makes elegance effortless. Hidee is the key to wearing every pair of heels and to feeling more elegant more often.
My jewellery is very wearable! Made from exquisite Pearls and gemstones, the designs are organic and graceful to wear.

What has been your biggest challenge as an entrepreneur and how are you working to overcome it?
My background is not in fashion and approaching stockists and fashion media is a whole world of learning for me. I would like to compress that learning !
My current plan to overcome is to listen to stockists and the media and to follow their advice. I contact many buyers and journalists everyday.

Give us one word that people might use to describe you.

London Fashion Week is a really important platform for any new designer. I would tell anyone serious about launching their work to plan to have everything perfect for LFW as the first showcase.
