Do you have a vision board?

I spent a few hours yesterday updating my vision board.  It is something I do at least twice a year.   Since I am such a visual person a vision board is key for me to keep focused on my life goals.  My current one takes up 2 bulletin boards in my office and is right next to where I sit so I can keep my eye on my dreams.

So you might be asking…what is a vision board?

A Vision Board (also called a Treasure Map) is typically a poster board on which you paste a combination of pictures, headlines and images either downloaded from the internet or taken from various magazines. It’s simple, just let your dreams drive you!

The idea is to surround yourself with images of who you want to become, what you want to have, where you want to live, or where you want to vacation, and your life changes to match those images and desires.  It helps you clarify, concentrate and maintain focus on a specific life goal.

What is the point? With all the distractions we encounter on a daily basis – a vision board can:

  • Identify your vision and give it clarity
  • Reinforce your daily affirmations
  • Keep your attention and focus on your vision
If you don't have a vision board, I highly recommend putting one together.  It's really a simple and fun process!  Turn on some fun music and get started!

Here are 5 steps to creating a vision board:

Step 1: Sit in a quiet place and set your intention. Then ask yourself what it is you want. Be still and listen.  It may be a one word answer or maybe images will appear in your head.  Just take a moment to be with that.

Step 2: With the vision still fresh in your head, spend time online searching for images.  Have fun with it and save the images in a Visions folder as you go along.  You can also go through your magazines and tear out images. Just let yourself have lots of fun looking for pictures, words or headlines that strike your fancy.

Step 3: Print out the images, words or headlines.  (And grab any you tore out of magazines) Then begin to lay your favorites on the board.  Use your intuition.  Eliminate any images that no longer feel right or that don't inspire you.  As you lay them on the board, you’ll get a feel for how the board should look. Be creative, let yourself go!

Step 4: Glue everything onto the board. Add drawings if you want. Paint on it, or even write words with colored markers.  Remember – its your vision.

Step 5: Hang your vision board in a place where you will see it daily.  Then add an appointment to your calendar to spend 5-10 minutes reviewing it daily.  This will keep your dreams in the forefront of your mind.  Don't just look at it – feel it!

I'd love to hear about your vision board so please share with us.  I included one of my boards in the picture above.
