Motoring Towards Personal Success

“If you really want to do something you will find a way. If you don’t, you will find an excuse”

We all know that the road to success is dotted with many tempting parking spaces but in order to keep motoring along smoothly, there are things I have been doing for years and they work so I wanted to share in the hope that this is useful to someone.

Firstly, you need to have a goal. Not just any old goal, something big, something that drives you forward, something exciting. It has to be exciting – If your goal doesn’t move you emotionally, you will never take action to achieve it. Next you need to create a bit of push and pull to achieve success. Identifying what you don’t want to experience and what you do want to experience is a great catalyst for action.

Last year I decided that I didn’t want to be struggling to find personal time to work on my own projects and although I didn’t want to experience cash flow problems, I certainly didn’t need an abundance of short term cash (that’s what the working on my own projects will generate as a long term goal!). Knowing what you don’t want creates the ‘push’ you’ll need to drive you towards achievement. So, ask yourself (and answer honestly!) What don’t you want?

Now you must decide what you want to experience. I wanted to free up my Client obligations to give myself more personal time and I wanted to use my newly found ‘me’ time to create a better work-life balance as well as the time to build the foundations of my personal brand. This creates your ‘pull’ which works in motivational harmony with your ‘push’. Now it’s your time to take the wheel again, asking yourself – what is it you really do want?

PUSH is the motivation for action and PULL creates the continuation of action, both spark the enthusiasm and drive you need to keep you motoring towards your goals.

Now you’ve set your goal and established what creates your push and your pull, you can create a plan to help you achieve it then take action in line with your plan. Remember achievement requires focus and focus often means saying “no” to a lot of distractions. Revisit your action plan regularly to measure results and check that you’re still on the right track.

I am now working with Clients 3-4 days per week and working on my content, social media output whilst attempting to build my own websites – all moving me towards my goal of creating a successful personal brand.
