My Journey from Accounting to Coaching

Tell us about your entrepreneurial product or service.
I do 3-day intensive transformational retreats for Professional Women who are overwhelmed and exhausted. They can slow down and reflect on what is most important to them, and hit the ‘reset' button for a fresh start!
In my private practice, I specialize in coaching 30-something women at a crossroads with their career choice. I designed: ACareerForMe(TM), a program that helps clients get clear about a career path that accurately reflects their natural strengths, passions and unique values. The process has them powerfully choose a career that makes their heart sing! I work with women in other age ranges, and men too.

What inspired you to launch your business idea?
My former career was public accounting. I was successful at it, and later ran my own accounting business from a home office. While I enjoyed it, I knew something was missing. When my youngest started Kindergarten I began thinking about what career would be most meaningful, so I hired a life/career transition coach to help me. I started out coaching people around personal finance, but soon discovered I wanted to coach women to powerfully step into what they were meant to be doing. I realized I'd actually been doing that for most of my life!

What problem does your business or organization solve?
The Live Event division of my business solves the dilemma many professional women face as their lives get increasingly complex and demanding. With smart phones and email, there is an implied expectation that we should all be working 24/7. Never before have personal boundaries, self-care and a carefully crafted life plan been so critical to living a meaningful life. In my FREE introductory talk: “3 Massive Mistakes Professional Women Make That Keep Them Frustrated, Overwhelmed, and Dreading Their Next Day at Work”, I share what these mistakes are, and what they can do to change things. In this talk I provide a ton of valuable information and tools so women can get started on living a life of ease NOW. The 3-day intensive provides an ultimate learning experience because the women learn together, get support, and form lasting bonds that impact them for years to come. Women come away with their own uniquely designed life plan that puts them in charge of their life in a whole new way. It's not about achieving balance, but rather, masterfully integrating all aspects of their life in a way that serves them.

What has been your biggest challenge as an entrepreneur and how are you working to overcome it?
So many ideas! Discerning which ones to act on, what to ‘table', and what to let go of is often my biggest challenge. I keep pads of paper everywhere so my thoughts have a landing place. (I won't take my IPad into my bedroom). I schedule a time in nature every couple of months to do a ‘big picture visioning' for my business. I talk to my coach to get fresh perspectives too!

How has Project Eve helped you and/or your business?
By letting me write this! I just joined, but I imagine it will be a great platform to promote my events which I'm incredibly passionate about. I look forward to connecting with other brilliant women to learn about their businesses too.

Give us an insider tip that relates to your industry or startup story.
Most of my private coaching is done by phone or skype (audio), so I get to coach people all over the world! My intuition is actually more powerful without the visual distraction.

Coaching is a viable business provided the coach understands that we are first and foremost in the business of sales and marketing. Every coach I know has a heart for helping people, but we don't get to do that in a big way if we aren't actively promoting.
