Startup Stories: Animation Vertigo

Marla Rausch, CEO of Animation Vertigo

What does Animation Vertigo do? Tell us about your entrepreneurial product or service.

Animation Vertigo is an outsource management company that provides motion capture services and solutions for industry leaders in film, television and video games worldwide. We specialize in giving motion capture post production companies peace of mind and the ability to do what they do best.

What inspired you to launch Animation Vertigo?

The idea came about simply enough; there was a need required by motion capture companies and production companies to maintain the quality of their motion capture during the constant influx of personnel. Because of the irregularity of projects, companies would have to train, hire and then release motion editors. When they needed them again, they would’ve found other work, and the process repeated itself. Understanding the requirements of the role, and realizing the need, I began to plan and determine how to build the company. It required getting permission from my husband’s company (House of Moves) to be able to work with them, but we did, and the rest is history.

What problem does Animation Vertigo solve?

We provide our clients the peace of mind to be able to work within their budgets, while maintaining the same level of quality they expect in-house and deliver the finished product on time, as they need it. Their success in releasing their film, TV show or video game is our team’s shared success.

What has been your biggest challenge starting Animation Vertigo and how are you working to overcome it?

The journey of entrepreneurship isn’t flat – there are ebbs and flows. During times when we are very busy and require more hands on deck, it is a struggle to put the team together and deliver as much as we can. When there is downtime, idle hands and too much personnel can also be tricky. I would say our biggest challenge would have to be that delicate balance of having too much or too little as that is the balance between profit and being in the red.

Give us one word that people might use to describe you.

Dedicated or Tireless.

What milestone do you hope Animation Vertigo will have surpassed one year from now?

As we expand our services to facial capture solutions, I hope to continue to build the team’s expertise and grow our team to be able to support full performance capture and virtual reality/augmented reality projects.
