Tell us about your entrepreneurial product or service.
Blinds of Beauty is the first and only company that specializes in vertical blinds slipcovers. The slip covers allows people to change their vertical blinds to match their home décor, they can be washed to remove all the dirt that accumulates over time, helps insulate rooms from blocking out unwanted high and low temperatures, and no need to always replace vertical blind slats as the fabric protects the plastic from environmental damage. We manufacture in the United States to help stimulate the recovery process.

What inspired you to launch your business idea?
When my daughter, Logan, was in her early teens, she was diagnosed with a very rare illness, reflex sympathetic dystrophy syndrome (RSDS). RDS, also known as complex regional pain syndrome. It is a rare disorder of the sympathetic nervous system that is characterized by chronic, severe pain. As with so many serious illnesses, the treatment, as they say, can be almost as bad as the illness. After enduring painful therapy sessions, she would return home in so much pain that even the smallest of everyday activities was not possible. Unable to participate in everyday life, she would spend most of her time in her room. But the pain, coupled with the hard-to-keep-cool (or dark) location of her room, made sleep elusive. For the love of my daughter the creation of vertical blind slip covers was invented.

Fast forward 18 years when my 60th birthday was a couple of months away, it was now or never. I quit my job as director of marketing and took my savings and started my company, Blinds of Beauty.

What problem does your business or organization solve?
There are several problems that Blinds of Beauty solves. Now renters and home owners can completely change the look of bland, boring vertical blinds without any damage to apartments, homes, and condos making their house truly their home. The use of the slip covers protects the vertical blinds from breaking and discoloring and becoming bridle with the ability to wash the slip covers removing the dirt and allergens from the inside air that is otherwise just clings onto the vertical blind slates. It also helps insulating the home blocking out the heat from entering in the hot months and keeping the warm air in the colder months in. They also limit the amount of vertical blind slats from entering the landfill as the verticals are not recyclable.

What has been your biggest challenge as an entrepreneur and how are you working to overcome it?
My biggest challenge as an entrepreneur has been starting over later in life, with only some savings and no house as collateral working out how to get the word out on a product that did not exist in the market place on a limited budget.

Give us one word that people might use to describe you.

How has Project Eve helped you and/or your business?
Project Eve has helped me to feel not as alone as a single women starting over at a later age in life. As I read other women’s stories on starting a business Project Eve has only given me more strength of mind to continue on my path.

Give us an insider tip that relates to your industry or startup story.
There are currently 450 million vertical blind slats with in the United States alone and we replace them ever 4-6 years with over half ending up in the land fill. We are trying to lower that number by extending the lifespan of vertical blind slats.
