Tell us about your entrepreneurial product or service.
I believe that individually we can make a difference but collectively we can make a change.
Through the power of social media my goals include raising funds, increasing awareness and getting people involved with various charitable organizations through on-line purchasing. Each month Leavesly features non-profit organizations as benefactors of a campaign. Products are designed specifically to promote the featured cause and/or the core values and purpose of the organization and a large portion of the proceeds from each sale will go directly to the featured organizations. Purchasing a product isn’t only about the monetary value to the cause but also the ability of individuals to get involved and to billboard their support through the use of each product over and over again.
November 2013 marks the launch of the community partnership program. Each month, local or regional charity organizations that mirror the mission of the campaign have the opportunity to participate and also receive a portion of the proceeds. Their involvement in what this company does is crucial and purchases made by their supporters will have a direct financial impact in their community.
What inspired you to launch your business idea?
Although the concept of purchasing for charity is nothing new, I saw an opportunity to build a brand that would encompass the many facets of charitable giving. Purchasing a product is fabulous and we highly encourage it, but donating your voice spoken or typed can be just as valuable. Even if one person learns something new about a cause or non-profit organization, I have done my job. The more exposure Leavesly gets, the more we are able to give back in the form of increased awareness and also monetarily. By taking the base model of buying for a cause and including local community opportunities I am able to double the efforts all around. Leavesly was founded with the idea of leaving things better than I found them and I am so proud that each sale helps to do just that.
What problem does your business or organization solve?
Leavesly is a vehicle for organizations to increase their exposure through social networks and provide tidbits of information or full success stories with an audience outside their steadfast supporters. Products purchased through Leavesly serve as a reminder of the cause and the individuals support and contributions each time they are worn. I do most of the legwork for each campaign and try to ask a little as possible from the partner non-profits, I know how hectic things can get. I essentially provide this “fundraiser” because I just want to help them make a difference.
What has been your biggest challenge as an entrepreneur and how are you working to overcome it?
As a start-up my biggest challenge has been gaining credibility with organizations. Each day that passes I prove that I am doing this with passion and honesty. I have used my local community, media contacts, family and friends to spread the word and help me to communicate my commitment to this business and the mission to change things for the better $8 at a time.

How has Project Eve helped you and/or your business?
Project Eve has such vast resources for just about everything. You could spend all day just learning from Project Eve. I think my favorite is the start-up stories. It's like a support group a click away. It is always fascinating to find out what people do and why they did it. It is a great reminder that everyone started somewhere and this is just the beginning.
Give us an insider tip that relates to your industry or startup story.
When doing something for charity, you have to be prepared to give it your all. Once I get a true idea of the need for change I have no other choice. I am compelled by my heart to help those who need it. Every time I see facts, statistics, pictures or hear stories it fuels my passion.
