Tell us about your entrepreneurial product or service.
HoneyColony (www.honeycolony.com) is a new magazine and marketplace geared toward people who are starting on their health journey. Created by the director of the award-wining documentary Vanishing of the Bees, HoneyColony is dedicated to putting honesty back into mainstream health and our food supply! We are generating about 100,000 unique visitors a day.

What inspired you to launch your business idea?
I am an investigative journalist by degree. In 2009, I directed and produced an award-winning film titled Vanishing of the Bees, narrated by Ellen Page about the global bee disappearances. Today, I am in service to the bees and all that they symbolize and teach us. They are messengers and are tied to the sacred feminine. HoneyColony aims to empower people to be their own best health advocate via solid information and trustworthy products.
Honeybees use a waggle dance (a little jig) in the shape of figure eight (infinity) to alert each other about the best source of nectar and pollen. With our propriety algorithm, HoneyColony adopts this model to alert users where the best source of information and products are in regards to health and well-being. We offer health through community curated wisdom.
Social influence and activity of our members is rewarded with BeeBucks (our honey-coated version of currency), maximizing the virality of our customer referrals, evaluations, and reviews. We do this to inspire and incentivize participants to share and communicate with one another, keeping the voice of HoneyColony true to its members.
One single bee cannot survive without her hive for more than 24 hours. But together they form what is called a super-organism, operating with hive mind.
What problem does your business or organization solve?
A human being should not wait around until its country get it's health care straight. So, let's say you decide you want to take your health into your own hands, where do you begin? If you aren't interviewing doctors, you're likely scouring the internet. Whereupon you will find tons of misinformation and a loads of companies who only care about the bottom line.
HoneyColony aims to unite the growing number of people adopting healthy lifestyles, seeking to cut through the hype and claims about natural products and remedies. With help from leading health experts and top-notch journalists in the field, community wisdom determines what works and what doesn't.
What has been your biggest challenge as an entrepreneur and how are you working to overcome it?
Basically a start up is in a permanent state of Beta. To stay ahead you have to embrace flexibility without compromising quality. And you have to be a quick learner. We're a very small hive who has come a long long way with a mere 100,000. However, to fulfill our vision and mission, we now need to land some angel investors. There are many days where I wish I could clone myself. We have just revised our deck and redesigned our home page and will be starting to actively look for angel investors. Luckily we've also grown immensely due to social media which proves our entire model. Fortunately, our sales have managed to sustain us.

I just found project eve a while ago on Twitter and I am so impressed by the selection of tweets. I was inspired and sought out this sisterhood.
Give us an insider tip that relates to your industry or startup story.
We have the right to health. unfortunately Big Agra and Big Pharma are slowly poisoning us with chemicals and processed foods. It sounds like crazy talk but it's true. It's no secret why there are rising rates of autism, cancer, auto immune diseases, obesity and diabetes.
