What does Rhonda Allison do? Tell us about your entrepreneurial product or service.

In the early 1990s I owned my own professional skin care clinic and at the time began creating advanced formulas for treating my clients' skin. I worked with some of the industry’s top chemists, formulators and doctors to create these formulas, as we were incorporating more active correctives. This evolved into a professional product line called Rhonda Allison Cosmeceuticals. As I began training other aestheticians on using these products and how to safely perform peel treatments, the brand began to grow organically.

Over time, we’ve grown into an education company, and because skin care is not one-size-fits-all, we’ve developed an extensive product line that includes the Professional, Essentials, Correctives, and Platinum Series, as well as RA for Men, and the Nude Therapies Body line.

Education has become a core component of Rhonda Allison Cosmeceuticals. Our goal is to support and inspire skincare professionals to challenge themselves to continually grow personally and professionally, and scale new heights. In 2014, we opened our Education Center in Golden, Colorado, and just this year hosted the RA Symposium in Vail, Colorado, which was three days of educational sessions and networking.

What inspired you to launch Rhonda Allison?

My interest in skin care developed at a very early age. As a teenager I used to whip up home-care concoctions like avocado and egg white masks. In my early 20s I began working with Mary Kay Cosmetics, which deepened my interest and motivated me to gain a deep understanding of skin in order to remedy specific skin issues. As I learned more about advanced skin care and how it impacted the skin, I began to develop science-based formulas that I used on clients in my clinic. The results were astounding. Around that time, I began working with and learning a great deal from some of the top chemists, formulators and doctors in aesthetics. This eventually led me to create a line of professional formulas that were used in treatment rooms. It was a natural evolution to create products for home-care that skin care professionals could offer to their clients to support healthy skin between treatments.

What problem does Rhonda Allison solve?

Aside from our lineup of leading-edge, professional-grade cosmeceutical products that solve a variety of skin challenges and support healthy skin, we advocate for the aesthetic professional through the advanced education and career development we offer. I’ve long had a passion for inspiring others through education, and as such we’ve developed an Education Center, series of books, webinars, white papers, and courses for aestheticians.

What has been your biggest challenge starting Rhonda Allison and how are you working to overcome it?

The biggest challenge in building this business has been learning to let go. It’s tempting to try to oversee every element of the business, but it’s simply not feasible if you want to achieve any kind of growth. I had to learn to trust the work others were doing, and that just came with time. Once I started to let go and began to be continually amazed at the effort and results we were achieving, it made it tremendously easier to see just how imperative it was to trust in others.

Though I was essentially starting over, and at age 41, when I decided to pursue advanced aesthetics, I never saw it as a challenge. I saw an opportunity to learn and grow, and I was motivated to make a positive change in my life. Each bump in the road I’ve faced has brought me to where I am today. I don’t look back with regrets, only gratitude for those opportunities and experiences to evolve and grow. With perspective you can overcome nearly anything.

Centered.

What milestone do you hope Rhonda Allison will have surpassed one year from now?

This year, we hosted the RA Symposium, an interactive three-day conference for skincare professionals. My hope is we inspire even just one attendee to take that next big step in their career and that they then work to empower others in their lives.

I am a firm believer in surrounding yourself with brilliant, talented people and appreciating the unique value they bring to the table. No one is better than or less than, and we all have something to offer others. Project Eve operates on that same philosophy and brings together fantastic communities of women to support each other as we grow and prosper.
