What inspired you to launch your business idea?
Along with finding the love of my life came the bonus of his beautiful daughter. I had gone to art school at UCLA but hadn't really had the chance to do much with it until I found myself trying to teach a 4 year old about scale, proportion and composition. It was a challenge to teach her how to scale things, or what the proportion of the house she was painting should be compared to the people, so I came up with the idea of themed stencils to serve as the basis of her creation and to help her understand the relationship between objects and elements in her painting. I also wanted to teach her about perspective and how to add depth to things by using tints, tones and shades, so we worked on color theory and how to mix colors. When I started sharing the idea with friends everyone thought that it was a phenomenal idea, so I developed SuperCool Art kits to help teach art fundamentals in a fun, non-intimidating way to aspiring artists' of all ages.

What problem does your business or organization solve?
With all the cuts in arts education we believe that SuperCool Art can bridge the gap and help foster creativity for all ages. They are great projects for families to work on together and can become a collaborative project that they can proudly display in their home for years to come. SuperCool Art kits aren't a project that will be finished in just a few hours, they take multiple sittings and really allow the artist to dig in and enjoy the entire process of creating a work of art from start to finish. From visualizing and conceptualizing a composition to deciding on what colors will work best. which elements the artist will use from the themed stencil sets and which will come solely from their imagination.

What has been your biggest challenge as an entrepreneur and how are you working to overcome it?
Cash flow and physical bandwidth! We are a self funded entity and now can see why some amazing small businesses don't have the opportunity to grow to their full potential. To form a business, put the necessary infrastructure in place for order management, processing, procurement etc… and all of the cash that needs to be laid out to build inventory and use for promotional purposes takes a fair amount of resources and cash.

Next comes ramping-up on all of the numerous social media sites, and keeping them constantly updated with fresh content to keep your audience engaged. In today's market social media plays a huge role in your branding and it needs to be given quite a bit of attention in order to grow and serve your business as a pipeline for customers.

Finding and building great vendor relations is also critical, if they can't meet your supply demands they can cause a small business a lot of heartache, so it's vital to build strong relationships with reliable vendors.

Then factor in the sales and marketing aspect of building a business. It's a big challenge to prioritize all the tasks that need to get accomplished. All of these require cash flow and the management of it.

We are currently working on building business credit and consolidating our credit cards to keep the cash flow going.

Give us an insider tip that relates to your industry or startup story.
There are numerous vendors that supply art materials, we have found that the smaller US based companies, such as French Canvas, Bristle Magic and The Color Wheel Company are more supportive, more reliable and more responsive than their larger counterparts, they understand what it is to be an entrepreneur. We pride ourselves on the fact that 99% of our kits are Made In The USA. We're working on the last 1%!
