4 Great Recipes to Simplify Your Morning

Smoothie RecipesIn our house, we are always on the lookout for ways to simplify our morning routine. Anything that gives me an edge at producing a healthy breakfast that can fuel up the family (particularly my son) for the day ahead with minimal prep time is a huge win. Below you’ll find my four favorite ideas for life-simplifying, nutritious breakfasts.

A big part of starting the day off healthfully for us is making sure breakfast has a bit of protein.  Yoghurt is one of my favorite ways to do that. When I was in college I was hooked on those  little containers of fruit flavored yoghurt, but then I noticed all the added ingredients and sugar they contained.  They were fast but weren’t really simple and as healthful as I was looking for. Wandering the grocery store aisles I found Mountain High Yoghurt and knew that along with some fresh fruit or my own homemade jam I could make a simple, delicious and nutritious breakfast myself without any of the crazy additives I was trying to avoid.

Mountain High Yoghurt has long been one of my mother-in-law’s favorites because it is made using a traditional European method that only uses cultures to thicken it. That mean’s no extra thickeners or funny stuff. Importantly, they don’t use milk from cows treated with growth hormones either.

Here are four ideas for great breakfasts you can make with Mountain High Yoghurt with just three ingredients or less! You’ll notice that three of the recipes are smoothies; smoothie’s are one of my favorite things to give my son. Faced with a table and a chair at breakfast he seems to go into slow motion. However, if I can hand him something healthy to consume while we walk to the bus it magically disappears. Mountain High Yoghurt is an important component of each of these recipes because just one serving includes 10 grams of protein, a great way to sustain my son through his morning at school.

Time Saving Tip: If the thought of assembling even three or four ingredients first thing in the morning seems like too much get it all in the blender the night before and stick it in the fridge.

The Blue Banana!

1 Cup Mountain High Original Plain Yoghurt

1 Ripe Banana

1/2 Cup Fresh or Frozen Blueberries

Toss all the ingredients into a blender or grab your immersion blender and blend away until your drink is smooth and creamy. This smoothie should be plenty sweet if your bananas are nice and ripe. If you need your smoothie a little sweeter add a drizzle of honey to taste.

Fruit Yoghurt Your Way

Fruit Yoghurt Your Way

Smoothie’s are great, but there are times when all I really want is some fruit flavored yoghurt. One of the best ways to get that great fruit taste without all the extra additives and sugar is to take my own homemade (organic and low sugar) jam and mix it up with Mountain High Yoghurt. My favorites are apricot and plum -two flavors you aren’t ever likely to find at the store!

Bonus Recipe: The Cuckcoo for Cocoa

A nutty, chocolate tropical dream of a smoothie.

1 Cup Mountain High Original Plain Yoghurt

1 Ripe Banana

2 Tablespoons Peanut Butter (my favorite includes Flax and Chia Seeds for an extra health boost)

3 Tablespoons Chocolate Milk Mix

3 Tablespoons unsweetened shredded coconut

Optional teaspoon or two of instant espresso for an added boost.

Toss all the ingredients into a blender or grab your immersion blender and go to town.
