Yikes! You’ve heard those dreaded words, “Check your kids’ head. We have… lice.” Bugs, in general, can make anyone squirm, but when you see hundreds of tiny ones all over your child’s head, or even worse, on your head, you really might freak out. IT’S OKAY. There is no reason to lose your composure. Lice do not signify dirtiness in any way. In fact, they prefer clean, soft hair. Don’t want to use harsh chemical treatments? Good, me either. Here are 7 Natural Remedies, effective and affordable remedies for both you and your little one.
1) Mayonnaise (not Miracle Whip – you need to get the good stuff) + Plastic Wrap + Swim Cap
Slather on the mayo (be generous) all over the hair and scalp. Once the mayo is in place, wrap plastic wrap around the hair like a cap (optional, just keeps the hair in place). Then place the swim cap over the hair (a lot of moms have written that they prefer the swim cap instead of a shower cap because it is a tighter, neater fit). Some people say to leave this on for two hours works, but in most cases it is recommended to leave this on overnight (only if your child is responsible enough to know they should not put their fingers on their head and then in their mouth). Essentially, the mayo suffocates the lice. Wash out the mayo with regular shampoo (do not use conditioner). Repeat this process every 3-5 days for three weeks.
