Women are notorious multi-taskers. It’s one of the attributes that makes them so powerful. This is especially true for women in the workforce, who exert their strength into both work and family time. Still, taking on too much can also lead to negatives, including breakdowns and decreased work performance. In order to be the most successful business woman you can be, make sure you’re paying attention to your emotional state and taking some much-needed time for yourself.
Create Your Own Getaway
Heading to the spa every night for some R&R sounds nice, but also a little excessive. Instead, create your own relaxing getaway. Get a hot tub and furniture to create an outdoor atmosphere on your patio, where you can relax without worrying about adding one more cost and destination to your plate. In fact, according to Oakville Home Leisure, having a permanent “staycation” getaway has longer-lasting relaxation benefits than taking a vacation to the beach. Your very own getaway will help you take the time to work through your stress in a healthy, relaxing way.
Regular Retail Therapy
Buying something new on a weekly basis can do wonders for a woman’s state of mind. It reaffirms your abilities and gives you something to look forward to. Just be sure you don’t go overboard with your weekly shopping date. You don’t want to break the bank, adding even more stress to your life. Give yourself a budget and buy just one thing for each trip, like lipstick or a statement necklace. You’ll be amazed at what retail therapy can do for you.
Unplug
You’re probably very attached to your devices for work purposes, and also very good at juggling all of them. But when work is over and it’s time to relax, leave them behind. It’s okay to keep your phone with you, as long as you aren’t glued to it; but don’t check email, spend all night on social media, or watch hours of television after work. Take some time without a screen and meditate, ponder about what’s important to you, and spend quality time with the people you love. It’s the best way to recuperate after a busy day.
Exercise
Countless studies have shown that if you’re body feels good, you’re mind usually does also. Regular exercise is one of the best ways you can stimulate your brain, making you ever better at your job than you already are. It’s also an excellent stress relief and will help to improve your mind, since exercise releases endorphins in your brain that work similarly to anti-depressants. Exercise is one of the most important things you can do to boost your mental performance at work and help you relax after a long day.
Be Compassionate – to Yourself
For some reason, women tend to have lower self-esteem than men, and if they get overwhelmed, that self-esteem drops even lower. Take the time to recognize your strengths and don’t dwell on your weaknesses. Remind yourself that it’s your progress that counts, not your perfection. A few minutes a day of meditating on your strengths and forgiving your weaknesses will do wonders for improving your overall performance.
10 a Day
Every single day, no matter how busy you are, take just 10 minutes to do something for yourself. Acknowledge that you’re doing something fun for you, not for anyone else, and revel in that time. You’ll be amazed how much better you feel, even with just 10 minutes.
Being a successful business woman isn’t easy, but it’s worth it. And if you’re willing to take some precious time out of your day for yourself, you’ll soon begin to see what it really means to be successful.
