Great Halloween Books for Kids: Ages 0-3
Five Little Pumpkins by Dan Yaccarino
This was one of my kids’ favorites at Halloween. These pumpkins are not your typical pumpkins. They have personality. They come to life off the pages. The descriptions are vivid, but simple enough for your little one to understand.
That’s Not My Monster…It’s Nose is Too Bubbly by Fiona Watt
This book is part of the “That’s Not My…” series. My children also loved this one because there is something to feel on every page. There was the monster that was too prickly. The monster that was too furry. What makes this one of the great Halloween books for kids is that it is interactive.
Room on the Broom by Julia Donaldson
If this one sounds awfully familiar, it’s probably because it is. This bestselling picture book was also made into a board book. There is also an animated movie of it that is played on many children’s networks around Halloween time. The rhyming aspect of this Halloween story makes it a great read for kids.

Click, Clack, Boo by Doreen Cronin and Betsy Lewin
This book is another great from the authors of “Click, Clack, Moo.” In it, Farmer Brown is in for some surprises after he decides to call it a night and forget about Halloween. Too bad the barnyard animals don’t do the same. You should definitely put this on your read list as one of the great Halloween books for kids.
Splat the Cat and the Pumpkin Picking Plan by Rob Scotton
You can’t go wrong with Splat the Cat. This latest installment of the series finds Splat on the search for the biggest pumpkin. What child can’t relate to wanting the biggest pumpkin? Splat the Cat doesn’t disappoint in this book.
The Spooky Wheels on the Bus by J. Elizabeth Mills
The wheels on the bus go round and round, even on Halloween. This book is a spooky spin on the old children’s classic song, “The Wheels on the Bus”. Your kids won’t be disappointed!

This makes it on the list of one of the great Halloween books for kids because it’s funny and scary at the same time. Kids are bound to want to read this one and find out more about the child with the wiggling toe.
What Was I Scared of? A Glow in the Dark Encounter by Dr. Seuss
Not only is this a Dr. Seuss book, but it also has glow in the dark ink. What child (or adult for that matter) wouldn’t love that? The story focuses around an empty pair of pants. Just as with many other Dr. Seuss stories, children will be captivated by each page.
Junie B. Jones Has a Monster Under Her Bed by Barbara Park
When it comes to great Halloween books for kids, don’t forget Junie B. Jones. These books are very popular with young girls. This installment finds Junie trying to figure out where the drool on her pillow is coming from. It leaves her to wonder if there really is a monster under her bed.
Great Halloween Books for Kids: Ages 9 and Up
The Halloween Tree by Ray Bradbury
Haunted house, eerie characters, you really can’t go wrong with this one. If you have a little ghoul who likes to read and likes a little spookiness, this is a great one.
The Best Halloween Ever by Barbara Robinson
This is one of the great Halloween books for kids because of the story line. It focuses around six children who are known to cause lots of trouble on Halloween. That is until the Mayor cancels Halloween. That’s one these kids take matters into their own hands.
