Boys Are Hard On Toys
When picking things for a boy to play with, you must consider that boys are going to be very rough with toys as a general rule. Most toys will be used in ways that are not what they were actually made for and end up being “blown up by toy soldiers” at some point in time.
At four years of age, imagination is in full gear. Boys typically enjoy building things and then watching them topple or be destroyed with other toys. Boys love getting dirty, wet, muddy and soapy. Toys that take all of those things into consideration will be favorites. Toys that are up to the task, will last the longest.
Old Stand By Favorites
Tonka trucks are still one of the favorites for young boys who like to crawl around on the floor or outside in the dirt. By age four, the typical boy can tell you the difference between a back hoe and an earth mover. I have yet to meet a four year old boy who doesn’t enjoy playing in the dirt with a Tonka truck and these toys are up to the challenge of being abused. Leave them out in the rain, it doesn’t seem to matter. Get them muddy and hose them off.
At four years old, boys like to build things. Age appropriate lego style building blocks are fun for them and they will find ways of making buildings, cars, boats and more. Don’t forget the toy soldiers, so that they can strategically place their imaginary army all over their creation. Some parents may not wish to add the toy soldiers, but in the grand scheme of things it doesn’t matter. Your boys will find a way to play war, even if you don’t want them too. It seems to be in their genes.
Shape It! Sand is a new product that looks like colored sand, feels like sand and stays perpetually moist so that it can be squeezed and shaped into almost anything. Can you imagine driving a Tonka truck over that? You four year old boy can!
The Fire Power Super Soaking Fire Hose With Backpack is every boys dream toy. It is a backpack that holds water and can be worn. The hose is fed by the backpack and has two spray settings. The water is sprayed by pump action. This is going to be their new favorite outside toy.
A teaching cash register and play money is a great age appropriate toy at this age too. They are old enough to start understanding that money is important to buy things and start showing a natural interest. Get them prepared for life by getting them to learn to count money and play games like grocery store with them. Play money can be used to play a lot of imagination games, like ‘restaurant’ and ‘bank’ and all those things that a four year old has a natural curiosity about. A this age they are paying more attention to the outside world than you think.
