This weekend is Mother’s Day and; therefore, a great opportunity for us to recognized a She-Eagle Mom who, let’s say, was instrumental in making sure working mothers are treated fairly in the workplace and are never penalized because they want children or have children or are pregnant. You may be thinking a She-Eagle Mom like this is hard to find. Nah . . . no way . . . there are plenty of them, but the first one that comes to my mind is Betty Friedan.
As a journalist in 1966, Betty Friedan gathered a group of women into a small hotel room during the Third National Conference of Commissions on the Status of Women. These women believed that Title VII of the Civil Right’s Act lacked fairness for women in the work place. From that impromptu meeting, 28 women came together and created a new organization – The National Organization for Women (NOW). Today NOW has over 500,000 members and their goal continues to be “take action to bring about equality for all women.”
Happy Mother’s Day to all Mom-She-Eagles!
