A Heart Rate Monitor & 10 Other Home Gym Essentials

Now that the new year has arrived, it’s time for everyone to make good on their resolutions to lose weight and exercise more.  If you don’t have room in the budget for a gym membership or just don’t want to deal with the hassle, then you can make a few minor purchases and turn your own house or even your sidewalk into the perfect gym for you.

A Heart Rate Monitor & 10 Other Home Gym Essentials

My number one pick is a heart rate monitor. With it you can turn any workout into a high intensity workout. The numbers on a good heart rate monitor won’t let you lie you are either in a high intensity phase or recovery phase. Use this to monitor your heart rate while you transform your stairs into a stair machine or your sidewalk into a spot for windsprints. If you prefer workout DVDs or other workout techiniques a good heart rate monitor will help you measure your intensive and see how your resting heart rate drops as your workout helps you transform your shape.

A Heart Rate Monitor & 10 Other Home Gym Essentials #1. Towels

Tons of sweat is the sign of a great workout, but that doesn’t mean it’s actually a comfortable feeling.  Keep sweat at bay with a nice supply of these absorbent sport towels.  They get the job done, and having a stack of them folded and ready will make your home gym look a little more like a  spa, which is nice.

A Heart Rate Monitor & 10 Other Home Gym Essentials #2. Resistance bands

Great for any number of exercises from lunges to squats, a good set of resistance bands will really amp up your calories burned.  This set of five is great, because the bands increase in resistance, so as you build up strength and stamina, you’ll be able to challenge yourself even more.

A Heart Rate Monitor & 10 Other Home Gym Essentials #3. CamelBak water bottle

Don’t forget to hydrate, hydrate, hydrate!  CamelBak is the favorite of millions because of the bite valve which makes it easy to chug without having to unscrew a lid.  And it won’t spill either.

A Heart Rate Monitor & 10 Other Home Gym Essentials #4. Weslo Cadence Treadmill

Don’t let this big ticket item scare you off.  A treadmill is a great addition to any home gym, but if you don’t have the money to spend on one, there are plenty of other ways for you to get a killer workout at home.  If you are in the market for a treadmill, this is a great one.  For under $300, you get a folding, space-saving treadmill with six programmed workouts and two inclines to take your run or walk to the next level.

A Heart Rate Monitor & 10 Other Home Gym Essentials #5. EA Sports Active 2 for Nintendo Wii

If a treadmill isn’t in your price range, consider a workout video game.  Nintendo Wiis are easy to find secondhand, and for a good price, these days.  The EA Sports Active 2 game will only run you twenty or thirty bucks, and it has everything you need for some absolutely killer workouts.  It comes with motion sensors that track your movements and measure your heart rate, so all you do is follow the programs on screen.  And there are literally hundreds of exercises that you can mix and match to create a workout as intense as you want.

A Heart Rate Monitor & 10 Other Home Gym Essentials #6. Ankle weights

For a hands free method of providing a little extra challenge to your run, walk, or cardio session, invest in a set of ankle weights.  You’ll be building up lower body strength and barely even be aware that you’re doing it.

A Heart Rate Monitor & 10 Other Home Gym Essentials #7. Small hand weights

You don’t have to splurge on an enormous weight rack to make your home gym functional. Instead, just buy a few sets of hand weights that are appropriate for your abilities and use them for lunging, squatting, curling, and pressing.

A Heart Rate Monitor & 10 Other Home Gym Essentials #8. Sport earbuds

These earbuds stay put during an intense workout, which is good because nothing pumps you up quite like a good playlist.  Put them in, then don’t worry about them until cool-down is done, because they’re not going anywhere.

A Heart Rate Monitor & 10 Other Home Gym Essentials #9. Weight bench

One simple weight bench opens up a whole new world of lifting techniques you can try.  In fact, with this weight bench and your hand weights, you have everything you need to target all the major muscle groups in your body.  Not a bad amount of bang for your buck.

Balance ball exercises are amazing at strengthening your core, balance, and agility.  This one is sturdy and durable, so it’ll stand up to a ton of bouncing, sitting-on, and anything else you can think of doing with it.  It even comes with a handy foot pump for easy inflation.

  1. Many thanks to you for sharing most of these wonderful discussions. In addition, the ideal travel plus medical insurance strategy can often eliminate those considerations that come with traveling abroad. A medical emergency can before long become too expensive and that’s likely to quickly place a financial problem on the family finances. Setting up in place the perfect travel insurance bundle prior to leaving is definitely worth the time and effort. Cheers
