Startup Stories: Helping healthy minds with a not so healthy body

startup storiesTell us about your product or service.
I am an Australian psychotherapist specialising in helping women and girls. I do private counselling, mentoring, workshops and write for a parenting website. My passion is helping women and girls overcome poor self image and the associated anxiety and depression.

What inspired you to launch your business?
I have been consistently in and out of hospital for 3 years. After 7 surgeries, lung collapses, intensive care visits, convulsions, anaphylaxis and a few other dramatic experiences, I admitted to myself that I was struggling to work full time for someone else, take care of my small son and be healthy. I was overwhelmed, stressed about the inconvenience of my health to my boss, colleagues and family. My health challenges are long term, so I needed to start thinking long term about my happiness.

What problem does your business or organization solve?
I help women and girls love who they are and love the lives they live.

What has been your biggest challenge and how are you working to overcome it?
I still have the same health challenges and I am still consistently in and out of hospital. My biggest challenge has been acknowledging that my ‘control freak’ tendencies are detrimental and that the world won’t fall apart if I am not busy. It’s still something I am working on, but I am relishing the chance to put myself, my family and my love of helping others before a bosses demands.

Give us one word that people might use to describe you.

How has Project Eve helped you and/or your business?
The information regarding marketing has been invaluable and the knowledge that there are so many strong, entrepreneurial women out there is incredibly inspiring.

  1. I’m amazed, I have to admit. Rarely do I come across a blog that’s both equally educative and engaging, and let me tell you, you have hit the nail on the head. The issue is something which not enough people are speaking intelligently about. I am very happy I came across this during my hunt for something concerning this.

  2. Hey just wanted to give you a quick heads up. The text in your content seem to be running off the screen in Chrome. I’m not sure if this is a format issue or something to do with internet browser compatibility but I figured I’d post to let you know. The layout look great though! Hope you get the issue resolved soon. Thanks
