Halloween has just passed, and believe it or not, holiday shopping has begun. Some of my retail clients sell up to 80% of their yearly revenue between November 23rd and January 15th.  With so much at stake, it’s important to make the most out of  holiday marketing. With that in mind, here are a few easy tips you can use to maximize your holiday marketing. Some of these solutions can be implemented within 48 hours or less.  With Thanksgiving right around the corner, it would be best to get started on these strategies sooner rather than later.

Showcase your products to make it easier for customers to buy

Although the day after Thanksgiving is technically considered the start of the winter holiday buying season,  most buyers are researching what they want to buy right now.  As a matter of fact, 47% of all holiday shopping is done online, and a whopping 90% of customers will search online for a product before buying it. There is no easier way to sell more than to have your products featured in a gift guide.   Your guide can be organized by price point ( The best gifts under $50 for women) Interests ( The hottest gifts for the sports fan), hobbies ( 10 gifts every gardener should have) and more. The possibilities here are endless. Many companies pay to be part of print ads for guides, but   this can be a huge waste of money.  It’s your ad, it should feature only your products.

If a customer is in your store or website, you have already won half the battle. Why let those dollars go elsewhere?  Take cues from your customer and make recommendations on other items that would complement their purchase. Say a customer is purchasing a child’s bicycle. They will probably need a helmet, knee pads, and a warranty. By all means, offer those items!  A good rule of thumb is that to be most effective, the upsell value should be no more than 60% of the value of the  initial purchase.
