Are you an entrepreneur or small business owner? Do you manage to incorporate exercise into your schedule every day? Easier said than done, right? I know that I am not as good about it as I should be. It’s far too easy to spend too long sitting at the computer or cutting out a workout so you can get more work done or attend a meeting instead. There are some real reasons why it’s important to get that workout in though.
Money. According to the results of a study by the Journal of Labor Research, those who exercise regularly earn 9% more than those who don’t.
Increased Energy. You’ll fall asleep faster and sleep more soundly.
Discipline. Sometimes it’s sooo hard to make yourself do your workout or head to the gym. But you know that you never regret it once it’s done. It takes that same kind of discipline to run a business, including sometimes doing work that you don’t care for or want to do.
Confidence. With exercise you gain confidence, enthusiasm, optimism and an improved self-image. Exercising releases several hormones including dopamine and serotonin, as well as endorphins. These chemicals have been shown to affect your mood, make you feel relaxed, refreshed, and positive. These are all important when you’re dealing with your clients and giving presentations.
Stress Reduction. This one is fairly obvious, but for all of the times when running your own business can be stressful, exercise can help you feel happier and more in control.
Making time to fit in those workouts will help you get through the tasks you have to do with more energy, while helping you just feel happier and more balanced.
What are your tips for making sure those workouts don’t slip? What’s your favorite time to work out? I’d love to hear from you!
