Tell us about your entrepreneurial product or service.
Our main focus is helping the Caribbean youth to develop a brand, which will assist in their transition from school life to professional existence. We provide tailored document services for the application process and workshops, inclusive of brand and professional marketing development.
What inspired you to launch your business idea?
I have had friends in the past who would come and ask for my assistance with their applications for employment. Not that they didn’t necessarily know the basics but where unsure and not confident about how their own brand came off. I then thought to myself, in the Caribbean the youth are somewhat at a disadvantage. We are not given proper guidance as to how to establish and market ourselves in such a way that makes us stand out. Thus, Gateway Caribbean was born, as a tool to help with this gap of understanding.
What problem does your business or organization solve?
We create a sense of awareness for what youth should expect and/or understand about employment and/or entrepreneurship. We help them to realize what some of the fundamental things that may not seem relevant are and create a foundation for them to build on for their continued professional lives.
What has been your biggest challenge as an entrepreneur and how are you working to overcome it?
My biggest challenge has been trying to get some youth to understand why everything that you do is important and affects your employ-ability level. Some youth make it quite difficult to keep engaged because their career is not fully thought of here in the Caribbean until maybe their 20s. I have overcome this by focusing on building their portfolios through fun activities. Creating engaging workshops that teach them the fundamentals through their own interaction with others, as apposed to me just standing and talking. They then come to understand the value of certain things by themselves.
