Kid Friendly Recipe #1 : Make Your Own Pizzas (and Skip the Delivery!)
If every Friday is your go-to pizza eating night, crank up the fun a notch by making pizza yourself! But here’s what makes this recipe different—every pizza is individualized to your children’s taste, preference and style!
The best part about this recipe? It takes only five minutes of prep work! That way, you can spend more time bonding with your kiddos, and less time kneading the dough!
For a family of four, start with two loafs of French bread (you can also use any kind of sub sandwich loaf you find in your supermarket’s bread aisle.) Slice it lengthwise down the middle, spread a layer of your favorite pasta sauce on each slice and then dish out the toppings.
Create an assembly line of toppings on your kitchen countertop, and enough of an assortment so everyone is happy: pepperoni, olives, ham, spinach, bacon, mushrooms, and an assortment of cheeses.
Tell your kids to pile on the toppings (allow them to load up on the cheese and other toppings—this is essential for their excitement and willingness to help you cook!) while you sauté garlic and caramelized onions for the grown-ups.
Place each loaded up loaf on a baking sheet, and bake for 10 minutes at 425 degrees. Once the cheese has begun to melt, dinner is ready! Allow everyone to get as creative as they want with the toppings they choose! Make the process fun, and your kids will love every bite.
Kid Friendly Recipe #2 :Sweet and Savory: Mac and Cheese ‘Cupcakes’
Cupcakes for dinner, anyone? What makes cupcakes the preferred dessert for kids is the size! Just a few bites, and you’ve got a great treat without the risk of over-indulging. To get even your pickiest eater enthusiastic to ‘chow down,’ make dinner as enticing as a real cupcake with mac and cheese cupcakes!
Easy to assemble and a blast to eat, this meal will be a sweet and savory dinner they’ll love!
Start by preheating your oven to 375 degrees, and take the following ingredients out of your pantry:
- 2 boxes of your preferred mac and cheese mix (Kraft, Velveeta, generic brand, etc.)
- ¼ teaspoon of pepper; ½ teaspoon of kosher salt
- 8 ounces of lean ground turkey
- 2 ½ cups of cooked broccoli
- 1 cup of finely grated parmesan
Line a muffin tin with cooking spray or muffin cups. Heat a large pan on medium-high heat, and cook the ground meat. Then, steam the broccoli and set both aside. Cook the mac and cheese according to the directions on the box, and then pour the mac and cheese, broccoli and ground meat back into the skillet.
Season with the parmesan cheese, salt and pepper, to taste. Fill each muffin cup ¾ of the way (careful not to overfill), and bake for 15 minutes.
