Startup Stories: Making Pet Care Personal

Leashrly Life

Tell us about your entrepreneurial product or service.
Leashrly Life is a personalized pet care business that treats every pet as a member of our family. We love animals and do our best to care for them as if they were our very own. From having sitters stay in your own home…keeping older pets happy in their own environment, to taking dogs out for hour-long off-leash hikes, we do our very best to be sure your pet is happy, healthy and comfortable in times when you can’t be there. In an attempt to set ourselves apart from typical doggie day care centers where owners must drop off and pick up pets, we work around your schedule to come when you need us and customize services to provide whatever you or your pet needs.

What inspired you to launch your business idea?
Having worked long hours in an advertising agency for many years, I made a major life shift and began working as a marketing consultant from home. Finding that I needed time to get out and exercise myself and my dog, I began to walk other dogs for friends and neighbors. The more I spoke to people, I learned there was a real need to help out with the demands of a busy lifestyle for all types of families with all sorts of varying schedules. From this need sprung a small pet care business called Leashrly Life which has now grown to almost 15 people.

What problem does your business or organization solve?
We provide peace of mind for you and your pet. It’s no question that people truly love and are committed to their animals. So when folks need to leave a pet whether it’s a business trip or family vacation, it can be extremely stressful. Leashrly Life takes that stress away by allowing pet owners to know that their animal will not only be well-cared for and safe but also happy, comfortable and loved.

What has been your biggest challenge as an entrepreneur and how are you working to overcome it?
The greatest challenge in this business has been finding the right people to join our team. While everyone may think they can care for an animal, it takes a very specific type of person who can do the job to our standards. We do not hire just anyone, we look for people who truly love animals, have experience working with all sorts of breeds and temperaments and are interested in the work because it is more of a calling than a way to make a living. As we grow, we are learning more and more about the type of people that we need to keep our business successful and our interview and hiring process has become more streamlined.

Give us one word that people might use to describe you.
Warm.

How has Project Eve helped you and/or your business?
Project Eve has been inspiring to me. I love hearing about the challenges and triumphs of other business owners and have leaned lots from their stories alone. I hope to gain more valuable insights through the site as time goes.

Give us an insider tip that relates to your industry or startup story.
In this business, you can’t be in it for the money. You have to have a passion for what you are doing and a fat bottom-line is not the goal. If you truly believe you are providing a valuable service for people and care about the way you are delivering that service, all will work out as it should.

  1. Hey I know this is off topic but I was wondering
if you knew of any widgets I could add to my blog that automatically tweet my newest twitter updates.

Please let me know if you run into anything.

article. But should remark on some general things, The
web site style is ideal, the articles is really excellent :
    D. Good job, cheers

  4. I’m impressed, I have to admit. Rarely do I encounter a blog that’s both educative and engaging,
and without a doubt, you’ve hit the nail on the head. The problem is something which too few folks are speaking intelligently about.
I’m very happy that I found this in my search for something relating to this.

  5. Most of us aren’t Copyblogger, and aren’t experiencing the level of spam they were. Most of us don’t have the volume of conversation happening elsewhere that they do; our social media conversations are smaller and need a “home base” on the blog. And, most importantly, participating in the comment sections of blogs does have a positive impact.
I have probably found more useful sites, links, information, and downloads not through online searches but by people in blog comment sections sharing a relevant source. Plus, a well-written comment with a thoughtful take on the topic will often cause me to visit the website of the commenter. That comment is a preview of how their blog posts will be.

  6. I have found a huge chunk of the blogs I load into my RSS reader through blog comments sections, and where do you suppose I turn when I want to find content to share? That RSS reader.
Taking time and leaving a relevant, useful comment is a way to bring people over to your website. Plugging yourself shamelessly in every post is a turn-off.

  7. Word count or time restrictions can keep your “ultimate guide” blog post from not quite being the ultimate guide. The experience, knowledge, and resources commenters can bring to your post in the comment section add to the understanding of the topic.
I’m fairly certain, for example, that when you get to the end of this post, you’ll be thinking “she forgot to mention this important thing” and you’ll take it upon yourself to mention it (hint hint). That’s the beauty of blog comments: readers get to help build on the original post, helping the author and other readers learn more about the topic.

  8. Whether opposing view or adding to the supporting view, there’s more to be said about most topics, and readers can help each other by commenting.
A coffee shop near where I work knows what I’m going to order before I order it. I love that. I love going in and having them pick up the conversation where we left off. It’s the joy of being a “regular.”

  9. Write more, thats all I have to say. Literally,
it seems as though you relied on the video to make your point.
You clearly know what youre talking about, why waste your intelligence on just posting
videos to your site when you could be giving us something informative to read?

  10. Attractive section of content. I just stumbled upon your blog and in accession capital to assert that I get in fact enjoyed account your blog posts. Any way I will be subscribing to your augment and even I achievement you access consistently quickly.
