Being a new mom has many responsibilities and one of them is proper feeding of the new born child. This means that you will be required to feed on nutritious foods since the baby is depending on you for nutrition. You also need to eat nutritious foods so that you regain your health.
Make sure that the food you eat is a balanced diet
At this time, your body needs a lot of nutrition since it needs to recover from pregnancy and it also needs to produce milk for the baby. You should make sure that the food you eat is balanced. The meals should have proteins, carbohydrates and vitamins. You can get proteins from beef, poultry, fish, eggs, beans and dairy. Carbohydrates are from cereals such as grains. Vitamins such as vitamin C can be obtained from citrus. You can also get vitamins from fruits and vegetables.
Take plenty of fluids
When breast feeding the baby, make sure that you take plenty of fluids so that you remain hydrated and for production of milk. Take water frequently instead of waiting to get thirsty. You can keep a glass of water at hand which you can take as you feed the baby.
You should make sure that you do not take too much caffeine and alcohol since they are dehydrating. Too much coffee intake can agitate the baby and may not sleep properly so you can limit yourself to 2 to 3 cups. In case you intend to take alcohol, one drink is safe, especially for the first three months.
Eat when hungry
When you are breastfeeding, the food you take is what the baby gets. This means that you need to take a lot of food for it to be enough for you and the baby. You should not wait for a particular time for you to eat. Eat when you feel hungry or at least every three hours so that you can produce enough milk for the baby.
As a new mom, you need to take a lot of nutrition so that you can provide the baby with enough milk. You should not focus on losing baby weight now since you will lose it with time. Focus on ensuring that you eat a well balanced diet as you limit high sugar intake, intake of high fat foods and refined foods.
