Pinterest has finally announced it will begin accepting advertisements- and it’s certainly been a while in the making! To begin the launch into advertising, Pinterest will pintroduce (haha see what I did there!) promoted pins, which is similar to the promoted post on Facebook or promoted Tweet on Twitter. The promoted pins will show up at the top of category or search results. Unlike some other sites, the Pinterest team is welcoming feedback on what you think of the ads and is very devoted to keeping it tasteful. The roll out will begin with a few business pages to start then emerge for all business users.
Ben Silbermann, CEO, wrote in his blog post that the ads would be:
—Tasteful. No flashy banners or pop-up ads.
—Transparent. We’ll always let you know if someone paid for what you see, or where you see it.
—Relevant. These pins should be about stuff you’re actually interested in, like a delicious recipe, or a jacket that’s your style.
—Improved based on your feedback. Keep letting us know what you think, and we’ll keep working to make things better.
