Q&A with Latina Mother & CEO Claudia Gutierrez

1. What is the ClaudiaG Collection? Tell us about your entrepreneurial product or service.
ClaudiaG is a lifestyle brand dedicated to empowering remarkable women to become entrepreneurs on their own terms and time. Our product line includes boutique-style, beautifully handcrafted and sophisticated handbags, versatile accessories and on-trend jewelry. ClaudiaG’s social selling model is meant to provide independent consultants opportunities for personal growth and financial independence, while building a sustainable means to give back to the community.

2. What inspired you to launch the Claudia G Collection?
I always had a passion for jewelry and handbags, and from a very young age I knew I had to incorporate into my career. I started making my own jewelry and selling it to friends/family and soon enough, I was selling it in boutiques around the country. In 2014, I attended a conference about direct sales which inspired me to embrace this business model as a way to empower other women to take control of their careers.

After the conference, I decided to completely change the ClaudiaG business model and repositioning the company for strong future growth with female entrepreneurs joining nationwide. We are the only business in the direct sales industry offering a full and complete line of genuine leather handbags, all exquisitely designed in exclusive limited editions and complemented with gorgeous accessories and jewelry.

3. What problem does ClaudiaG Collection solve?
The most powerful business aspect of the ClaudiaG opportunity is the flexibility it provides women. More than ever, women are finding they can have the best of both worlds: a rewarding career and income while still being able to prioritize their personal/family needs first. Many of our consultants are full-time moms, students, are retired or have other full-time jobs and are looking for a side-gig. An opportunity like ours provides the flexibility to work with their own schedules without having to sacrifice the important things in life.

4. What has been your biggest challenge starting ClaudiaG Collection and how are you working to overcome it?

My biggest challenge has been to balance career and personal life. I love working every day and don’t mind the long hours. However, I was not ready to give up a family life for a career. Time management plays a huge role in this balance and I apply myself each day to make sure the important things get done at work and at home. That is why I embraced the direct sales model for ClaudiaG. I see it as the perfect avenue for women, like myself, who are looking for that elusive work/life balance.

5. Give us one word that people might use to describe you?

6. What milestone do you hope ClaudiaG Collection would have surpassed one year from now?
I want this company to grow and expand. We are just getting started. My goal is to be able to make a difference and touch lives every day- by providing opportunity to enterprising women and giving back as a company and team. I may not be able to do it all by myself, but I’m certain that it’s possible through our growing team of consultants. We have built a close-knit community and encourage sharing, empowerment and support. I believe that focusing on the important things -those that make a difference- and doing things right for our consultants will bring rewards beyond my wildest dreams.

8. Give us an insider tip that relates to your industry or the startup story for ClaudiaG Collection?
One of the most valuable lessons I’ve learned is to keep an open mind. You never know when an opportunity will present itself that will literally change your life. Such was the case when I ran across an article describing the direct sales industry and how it helps thousands of entrepreneurs pursue and fulfil their dreams. At the time, we were marketing our products through boutiques (the traditional way of selling retail products), but I had the chance to change the business model completely. It wasn’t easy or comfortable but it was the right move. We evolved from a product focused business to being of service to women whom, like myself, have to juggle the responsibilities of career and family life.
