Startup Stories: Salon and Spa catering to women with hair loss

Tell us about your entrepreneurial product or service.
Heaven Your Way is a full service salon and spa that will cater to women suffering from cancer, lupus, alopecia, or some form of traumatic hair loss. Heaven Your Way will offer private hair and skin care services along with custom wigs, head shavings, mastectomy fittings and hair and scalp analysis that will be conducted by specialists. It will be located in Middlesex County, NJ—easily accessible to patients of two prominent cancer centers in the state. I hope to partner with the centers as I will accept health insurance to offset costs, offer patients discounted services, host events and raise awareness about the effects of hair loss associated with illness. Heaven Your Way will also cater to its clients by offering a membership plan that will include free Wi-Fi, a refreshment cafe, discounted products from the retail store, a newsletter, and discounted services.

What inspired you to launch your business idea?
During my senior year in college, I suffered a serious chemical reaction that caused me to lose my hair. Feeling devastated and humiliated, I attempted to find a salon that would enable me to have privacy while servicing my needs and couldn’t find one. After doing some research, I found out there were so many other reasons why women loose their hair. I decided to use my experience to positively impact women undergoing similar circumstances by opening a salon and spa that would address hair loss and how to maintain healthy hair & skin.

What problem does your business or organization solve?
Heaven Your Way helps to provide women with a solution to their hair loss. We educate clients on how to maintain healthy hair & skin, and provide a safe, private, and relaxing environment for them to feel comfortable and be pampered. We have special services such as hair & scalp analysis and mastectomy fittings. We build a woman’s self esteem and focus on their health and overall well being.

What has been your biggest challenge as an entrepreneur and how are you working to overcome it?
My greatest challenge has been getting funded for all the cost that go into opening a salon and spa of this caliber. Not coming from a wealthy family or having a lump sum of money at my disposal has caused me to find other non-conventional ways to get funded like running crowd funding campaigns and getting loans from non profit organizations designed to help fund entrepreneurship. I’ve also raised money by doing events such as my dance workshop and spoken word. My crowd funding campaign can currently be viewed at .
