Startup Stories: AfroDeity

AfroDeity meet Theo Paphitis

Tell us about your entrepreneurial product or service.
AfroDeity features and retails Caribbean Inspired Hair and Skin products. Simple. Natural. Effective. Our ultimate aim is to help small Caribbean farmers by bringing natural healing oils & butters to the UK putting money back into that economy and I turn helping women in the UK have access to safe natural products.
Our signature products are the Fountain Jamaican Oils made from ingredients sourced directly from Jamaica and our own brand of Caribbean Inspired products: Joliette.

What inspired you to launch your business idea?
AfroDeity was started by a mother and daughter team. After years of hair and skin problems our scientific backgrounds lead us to look at the products our ancestors used.
AfroDeity’s children had attended a small rural private school in Jamaica and seen first handhow rural farming affects the education of children from those communities and how important it is to them.

What problem does your business or organization solve?
We provide products that help with skin products such as eczema, problems like insomnia and muscle pain and treating hair loss.

We also support initiatives in the Caribbean that encourage the growing of crops in rural areas.

What has been your biggest challenge as an entrepreneur and how are you working to overcome it?
Having a scientific background we focused on the regulatory aspects of the business before anything else. Getting all the regulatory paperwork in place proved very time consuming and expensive.
We started with a very small budget but have been able to grow nonetheless.

Give us one word that people might use to describe you.

How has Project Eve helped you and/or your business?
Only just started using Project Eve and it has already proved interesting.

Give us an insider tip that relates to your industry or startup story.
