Yes, you’ll need a passport and air transportation, but if you want something tropical and exotic but with all the same luxuries of home, it can give you a little of both. Between the crystal clear and warm water and the rich history and heritage, there’s something for everyone. Visit the beaches and work on your tan, or take a charter to the nearest Mayan ruin for a trip to the past. You won’t be disappointed in the culture, food, or music!

New Orleans, Louisiana

Sure, Bourbon Street may not be the first place you think of when thinking of spring break, but trust me, you won’t be disappointed in this popular locale. Whether you’re going with college friends and don’t mind the constant parties or you’re going for the history, it’s a mecca for a little of both. New Orleans if chocked full of historical and ghostly background and is perfect for days of touring and nights of fun. Visit Bourbon Street for a sense of the nightlife, and schedule a tour of the French quarter, do a spooky nighttime ghost walk, or just hit the road toward the Gulf Coast.

Los Angeles, California

If heading to the beach is low on your priority list, Los Angeles, California may be the perfect place for you. While you do have fast access to some of the most beautiful and popular beaches in the US, you have a vast amount of things to do and see. Visit the Hollywood hills for breathtaking views of the city, the iconic Hollywood sign, and for some amazing trails. If the outdoorsy isn’t for you, schedule a tour downtown to see some of the historical sights and sounds, visit the homes of the stars, or just travel the Walk of Fame to find your favorite celeb.

Maui, Hawaii

Don’t have time to get a passport? No worries. Taking your spring break in Maui is the best of both worlds. You’ll get that same island flair without worrying about technically leaving the country. Maui is an adventurer’s dream. With water activities like scuba diving, snorkeling, surfing, and parasailing, you’ll never want to change out of your swimsuit. However, you can’t stay in the water forever. Visit some of the island’s beautiful landscapes, active volcanoes, and winding ocean roadways for some time away from the coast.

Outer Banks, North Carolina

Not everyone is looking for a place to party. For those who want a more subdued and family-oriented spring break destination, try your hand at the Outer Banks. Not only is this coastal paradise a desired spot for beach lovers, but you’ll get a first row seat to some of the nation’s spectacular past. See the spot where the Wright brothers took their first flight, visit the mysterious Roanoke Island, and take a glimpse into World War II with some naval spots. But don’t worry, the white-sand beach and clear waters are beautiful too.

Las Vegas, Nevada

Not all spring break destinations are near the coast, and if you’re definitely not the beach type, a trip to Vegas is in order. But, don’t fear, the City of Sin has recently become the hub for families and singles alike. If you’re looking for somewhere you can take your kids and have a few drinks, you’re in luck. Vegas offers some of the most amazing spots. From touring the Hoover Dam to sightseeing the Grand Canyon, there are some great outdoor spots. Take a trip to Adventureland for the kiddos before leaving them with a sitter to enjoy the nightlife and shows on the strip. A little gambling won’t hurt either!
