Startup Stories: Appiom – Help Limit Your Child’s App Use

Manage Kids' Online Activity From Anywhere

Appiom allows you to limit your children’s Internet and app usage on their phones, tablets, game consoles, and PCs.  You can turn off access on their devices, or just specific apps like Facebook and Snapchat.  It takes no effort to set up and you control it from a mobile app on your phone.

If you have a child at home with a smartphone, tablet or connected game console they could be online at all hours of the day without much oversight or control.

Appiom combines the power of an innovative hardware design and the mobility of the Cloud with an intuitive, easy-to-use Mobile App that puts the solution at your fingertips.

What inspired you to launch your business idea?
Like other parents around us, we struggled with the same parenting challenges with the Internet and didn’t see any easy solutions out there. Some of our friends have had to actually pull the power cable out of their home router every night!

We figured there had to be a better way. We all want to help our kids be successful. And parents shouldn’t have to be an IT Director in order to manage their home Internet! We wanted a simple way to see what our kids were doing online on any of their devices, and control their access to websites and Apps.

So we got together and created Appiom. It’s a simple and easy way to regain control of our kids’ home Internet and mobile 4G/LTE data device usage – even when we’re not at home.

What problem does your business or organization solve?
The immense popularity of mobile and connected devices has given many kids a practically unrestrained and constant access to the internet.

Appiom provides overwhelmed parents with critical control over this access making it easier to manage when and how their kids can access the Internet. Best of all, Appiom empowers parents to instill safer online habits and experience for their children.

They can turn off access on their devices, or just specific apps like Facebook and Snapchat. It takes no effort to set up and is controlled from a mobile app that can be used in the home or wherever they may be, i.e. work, shopping, etc.

What has been your biggest challenge as an entrepreneur and how are you working to overcome it?
Too much to do, too little time and too few people! The classic problem of creating a startup from the ground up. Thus, we’ve decided to launch on kickstarter to get our product out to market, get customer validation, and then further fund raising to scale and grow the company to the next level.
