Startup Stories: Because Together We Can

sunflower Startup Stories: Because Together We CanTell us about your entrepreneurial product or service.
Nelson Mandela said “Education is the most powerful weapon that we can use to change the world” However, the reality is we are failing to teach our children about the world. Everything we do has consequences, we live in a truly interconnected world, 1world-kids is an online resource designed to complement education and learning and fosters a greater awareness and understanding of critical global issues giving our children the knowledge they need to make more informed choices.
We publish a FREE monthly newsletter that can be downloaded from our site.
We aim to develop a range of 1world-kids branded products run competitions, introduce an online forum where children from across the world can share stories and work together to raise funds for projects that matter to them and much more

What inspired you to launch your business idea?
ummmm. well in truth it happened because my husband bored me to death! Everyday he would come home and tell me the end of the world was nigh, we were doomed, and shout at me for not filling up the garage with essential food and supplies!… So, I decided to spend my free time researching, climate change & world affairs and discovered to my horror that some of what he said was true. But, I saw that we had a choice we could be part of the problem head in the sand or we could work to be part of a solution that would give us a brighter future, with this in mind I decided that if we were to secure a future for mankind, then I needed to educate our children. Two years research into school, constantly talking to my son and his friends, looking at curriculum reading every kids book and website and C’est voila here we are.

What problem does your business or organization solve?
Funding, we have reached the point where we need to secure funding, traditional banks have said no, not because of the company, but because I have no house or collateral

I have just launched my first crowd funding campaign with start some good and am looking at securing corporate sponsorship as many organizations would benefit from being associated with 1world-kids as our children are the consumers of tomorrow.
It is a real catch-22 The problem is that we cannot launch products until we have more hits but i cannot get more hits unless I get some funds.

What has been your biggest challenge as an entrepreneur and how are you working to overcome it?
Funding thus far, but am constantly re-evaluating where we are, our needs. reading and learning from others

Give us one word that people might use to describe you.
