Startup Stories: Born from Love, Ooh LaLa Soap Co.

Happy Holidays from Ooh LaLa Soap Co.

Tell us about your entrepreneurial product or service.
Ooh LaLa Soap Co. manufacturers luxury bath and body products from all natural ingredients. Ooh LaLa Soap Co. is a Christian owned and operate business founded and rooted in Biblical principles. What makes our products different is that we add a special ingredient of prayer & tender loving care to each product we produce.

What inspired you to launch your business idea?
My daughter “Diamond” continues to be our inspiration for Ooh LaLa Soap Co. Diamond has suffered from Eczema since she was two years old. We, like many families, have struggled to find products that offer lasting solutions to treating this skin ailment.

What problem does your business or organization solve?
Four years ago, I began to ask God to help me make her skin healthy as she was transitioning into a teenager and I noticed an increase in the severity of the breakouts and how she began to scratch patches of skin until they would bleed. As I prayed for a solution, I became lead to remember the days of my childhood and how my “Beloved Grandma Velma Dunn ” would spend hours in the kitchen making herbal and medicinal products to heal her children and grandchildren. Unfortunately, none of her children learned this gift and I was the grandchild who stuck to her like glue. I began to research my daughter’s ailment and how to best treat it. I began to make soothing Oatmeal soaps and silky body lotions that were effective at not only taking away the itch, but they healed her scars and improved her itchy, scaly skin into smooth glowing healthy skin. Our products are special because I asked the giver of all gifts to help me. I’ve used prayer and care from day one in creating each and every product and that’s the difference our customers experience.

What has been your biggest challenge as an entrepreneur and how are you working to overcome it?
Our biggest challenge has been operating without a marketing budget. As a new start-up business, we just don’t have the funds to market like the large business do. We have had to rely on word of mouth customer advertising to grow our business. This has been rewarding as we love our customers and love when they post their testimonies. We are gaining new territory slow and steady, but we welcome the day when we can expand our marketing and expose thousands to our luxury all natural products and superior customer service.

Give us one word that people might use to describe you.

How has Project Eve helped you and/or your business?
Project Eve has a wealth of information that is both priceless and more valuable than 90 percent of the information and websites I’ve used over the last two years.

Give us an insider tip that relates to your industry or startup story.
The personal care industry is the second highest grossing industry in the African American Population to which I am a member.
