Startup Stories: Building a Body-licious Fashion Boutique

Founder and Owner

Tell us about your product or service.
@g_Styles is a women’s online fashion boutique with new accessories and one of a kind pre-loved clothing & shoes. We offer wardrobe consulting for those of us who look at their closets wondering “what am I going to wear today”. We’ve all been there, some times its great to have another set of eyes to look at our closets to determine what would work best for our style and body shape. Lastly, we have a fashion blog that provides style tips and resources for how to wear certain items.

Our mission is to provide urban chic fashion best for your body shape.

What inspired you to launch your business?
Subsequently my youngest niece became my “model” to help showcase the clothes better. There was something she said that opened my mind to the possibility of really making this a business. She said “its never too late to do what you love”. This was coming from a 14 year old mind, so I knew I had to take notice.

Now, 48,000 followers later on Poshmark, our online fashion boutique provides new & pre-loved clothing, wardrobe consulting (for those that are tired of “not having anything to wear”), and a fashion blog with tips and resources. It is amazing to think that 8 months ago had I not read that Forbes article I wouldn’t be where I am today….and that’s mind-blowing.

What problem does your business or organization solve?
The primary problem we solve are fashion crisis caused by body shape challenges of regular women that lead extraordinary lives (which is really all of us). This started as being my own problem. I had relocated from NYC to SoCal and the dramatic change in lifestyle lead to a 50lbs weight gain. UGH! I had NO idea how to dress for my new body shape. I loved fashion but it didn’t seem to love me back. From there I started reading anything I could to dress for the body I had while I was trying to loss the weight.

Through the process I realized that you absolutely can look good at any size when you have the right tools. This is when I decided to focus my blog and business on the idea of dressing for your body shape. Size doesn’t matter but the shape & cut of an item can make all the difference in the world. We are conquering the world one body at a time.

What has been your biggest challenge and how are you working to overcome it?
One of the challenges is consistency. Everything in business is about being consistent in your actions and tasks. If you want to make money in business you have to be consistent about your marketing. We’re overcoming this challenge by automating as many of our internal systems as possible. For example: hiring a VA (virtual assistant) to post blogs, manage social media, and other admin duties.

I learned early on that I can not do everything and need people and processes to help make a smooth running business.

Give us one word that people might use to describe you.

How has Project Eve helped you and/or your business?
I am new to Project Eve but was excited about the opportunity to tell my story. Some times we think that it takes this huge long process to start a business and be successful at it (don’t get me wrong there are challenges), but it really just takes one idea and then acting on that idea. You never know until you try. Plus, only you can do what you do, the way you do it, which makes you have something unique in this world to provide.

Give us an insider tip that relates to your industry.
Define yourself for yourself and fashion will follow.
