Tell us about your product or service.
GRAYL, Inc. is a woman owned, Seattle-based startup founded in 2012. We make innovative, beautifully designed products that contribute to a healthy lifestyle and clean environment.

GRAYL’s water filtration cup filters water fast, easy and on the go – simply Fill, Press, Drink. GRAYL’s G3+ Filter is designed for everyday use and is effective against bacteria (99.99%). chemicals, flavor and odor. The G3+ Purifier is designed for international and outdoor adventures, removing 99.999% bacteria, viruses and cysts plus chemicals, flavor and odor. GRAYL gives you one less thing to worry about.

GRAYL’s breakthrough, patent pending innovation works like a coffee-press. Fill the outer cup, press down, and water flows through the G3+ filter into the clean inner cup. Drink immediately, share with friends, or seal the lid and toss it in your computer bag.

GRAYL is constructed of 18/8 stainless steel and silicone. We also designed an incredible lid for a one-of-a-kind drinking experience. It’s safe to say you’ve never drank out of anything like it.

What inspired you to launch your business?
I was inspired by own search for great drinking water away from home – in my car, in the airport, at the office. I’m sensitive to the taste of chlorine and metals in the water, but I’ve never liked those giant pitchers. I used refillable plastic bottles until reading more about BPA and chemical leaching and bottled water isn’t a sustainable answer. So I decided to create something better.

I took design inspiration from my home coffee press. I worked with my co-founder and a brilliant industrial designer for over 15 months on the design! Now we’ve created a stylish filtration system that can be used every day, whether filtering creek water on the trail or tap water at the office. I can’t wait to share it with the world!

What problem does your business or organization solve?
GRAYL solves multiple challenges drastically affected the health of humans and our environment. GRAYL’s filtration process creates healthy water. GRAYL’s filter is good for 300 uses, or in perspective replaces 300 plastic water bottles that pollute the earth.

Many people now own reusable water bottles, and many have moved away from plastics to stainless bottles. But if you still have bad water, you aren’t going to fill your reusable stainless bottle. GRAYL is a stainless solution that also filters. There is no product on the market like it.

What has been your biggest challenge and how are you working to overcome it?
Distance. Team GRAYL is a cast of dedicated, talented people – I’m amazed every day at their passion and skill. But we all live in different cities and most have other jobs working on GRAYL at night and the weekends. I live on Camano Island north of Seattle. My co-founder, Travis, in Spokane, WA and we have key people in Seattle, Eastern Washington, Arizona, Los Angeles and Idaho. So we use a variety of web tools to collaborate – Google Hangouts, Dropbox, BaseCamp, etc. After launch, we’re going to bring the team together in Seattle. But being able to draw upon phenomenal people, where they are, for part of their work week was absolutely crucial to GRAYL’s birth.
