What inspired you to launch your business idea?
The business was inspired by my love of candles AND my health and wellness lifestyle. I always lit candles around the house because I loved the smell and the beautiful romantic glow. As a former health professional I was always doing research on wellness and health-related topics and one day I discovered just how toxic most candles on the market are. The paraffin wax that is in most candles is hazardous to your health, so much so that it can cause cancer! So, was I really ready to give up my enjoyment of lighting candles? No way! I had to find a way to have the best of both worlds. A candle that smelled wonderful, but was not toxic.
What problem does your business or organization solve?
The answer: soy wax. My research taught me that using all natural fragrances and wax, like soy wax was an eco-friendly, all-natural choice. My business addresses the health concern for many candle lovers out there that want to keep themselves and their loved ones away from breathing in toxic, cancer causing chemicals.
What has been your biggest challenge as an entrepreneur and how are you working to overcome it?
As an entrepreneur, you have to be resourceful. With little to no start-up money it has been a challenge to market my business to the public. To overcome it I have been utilizing social media and looking for opportunities like this one to tell the world about my business. I take every opportunity I can to learn more about being an entrepreneur and seek help from a mentor (or two) whenever possible.

How has Project Eve helped you and/or your business?
I was able to post my business info on another Project Eve post in the past and have made some connections through Twitter and Facebook as a result. The articles on Project Eve have been helpful as well!
Give us an insider tip that relates to your industry or startup story.
Always make sure that your candles are made from 100% pure soy wax. Some companies are not truthful and claim that their candles are soy, but they are in fact a blend of soy and paraffin–still toxic. You can usually tell that a candle has paraffin wax in it if you see black tar or soot around the edge of the glass. You should not see this if the candle is made from pure soy wax.
