What does Driven Media do? Tell us about your entrepreneurial product or service.

Driven is a multimedia startup that uses stories of real women to help young women understand their lives and potential. It’s journalism for women by women.

What inspired you to launch Driven Media?

There’s a real need for Driven. Though women make up 51% of the population, they only make up 20% of news stories. This affects how women see themselves. We want to tell a variety of stories and represent the lives and journeys of many women so that our audience has relatable faces in the media. We’re five young women and we know what we’re missing from legacy media and we know how to connect with women in our age group.

What problem does Driven Media solve?

According to our market research– surveys and interviews –young women are incredibly unsatisfied by today’s media. They want to see more relatable faces, more positive stories and they want to learn. Driven stories fill this gap.

What has been your biggest challenge starting Driven Media and how are you working to overcome it?

Our biggest challenge has been raising the money to get on our feet. We have been crowdfunding and have had great response from individual backers, but it’s more difficult to get sponsorships. We’re working to overcome this by stretching our networks as far as we can and forming relationships with new people and organizations.

What milestone do you hope Driven Media will have surpassed one year from now?

We hope to have produced content that resonates with a large number of young women. We also hope to secure sustainable revenue models.
