Startup Stories: Empowering Women To Be Victors, Not Victims

Wendy Megyese - Owner of Best Line Defense

Tell us about your product or service.
We carry the best and most reliable self defense and survival products such as law enforcement grade pepper sprays and high voltage stun guns. We also write safety articles to educate women on staying safe.

What inspired you to launch your business?
I grew up in New York City, and I am currently a Deputy Sheriff in a rural area. As such, I have encountered much of the darker side of humanity. I have also worked with women who might have avoided becoming a victim of assault if they had been able to use some type of self defense weapon. I have also been exposed to pepper spray and have been Tased as part of my law enforcement training, so I know how well these things work.

Evil doers will always find a way to get what they need. I believe it is time that law abiding citizens, especially women are empowered to fight back.

What problem does your business or organization solve?
I educate women to recognize potential danger zones for their safety, then empower them with self defense tools they can use to fight back against attackers.

What has been your biggest challenge and how are you working to overcome it?
My biggest challenge has been finding ways to reach our most at risk women. I am overcoming this challenge by offering my services as a public speaker on safety issues to various women’s groups and organizations.

Give us one word that people might use to describe you.

How has Project Eve helped you and/or your business?
Project Eve has helped me get in touch with other women who want to know how to stay safe in an ever growing violent society.

Give us an insider tip that relates to your industry.
Being aware of your surroundings and prepared to defend yourself is always a key factor in staying safe.
