Tell us about your entrepreneurial product or service.
Flexiworkforce is a specialist online recruitment job site dedicated to all forms of modern flexible working for skilled people. Our mission is to solve the UK’s skills shortage by releasing the potential of those for whom the traditional ‘9-5’ routine does not work. Flexible working is the fastest growing employment type in not only the UK but Worldwide and will connect skilled flexible job seekers to their best opportunities and employers to their optimal workforce.

We are currently based in the Glasgow ESpark Hatchery, a business accelerator which provides invaluable resources and advice to myself and a host of other entrepreneurs.

What inspired you to launch your business idea?
I was inspired by the difficulties I myself faced trying to get back to work after having my daughter and twin boys.

It really was not easy, with my three children getting older I was seeking employment as a skilled and experienced candidate, but found it almost impossible to find genuine part-time opportunities online, with giant job boards being hard to navigate and teeming with scams and dubious-sounding posts. In a sense, looking for a job almost became a full-time job itself!

What problem does your business or organization solve?
Mainstream job sites are missing a trick, in that they are failing to provide employers with their optimum skilled workforce . I thought to myself, someone needs to start offering real, high-quality flexible and part-time work, in order to harness all of these experienced, skilled individuals, who, for whatever reason are excluded from the conventional ‘nine to five’ working schedule. As it stands, companies are cut off from a huge pool of untapped talent.

Flexiworkforce is the solution to this problem.

What has been your biggest challenge as an entrepreneur and how are you working to overcome it?
While I can’t recall any one big mistake, the whole process of starting my own business has been a real learning curve – a steep, steep learning curve! Fortunately, I have received lots of great advice, which I feel has prevented a lot of other mistakes from being made. Waiting for feedback and news from clients and potential investors can be extremely frustrating. This was especially difficult when I was in the early stages of building my business, however, these experiences have made me more clued up on the processes that my business needs to go through, and this definitely has eased the journey somewhat!
