Friends 4 the Future

Tell us about your entrepreneurial product or service.
I am the CEO and Fonder of Friends 4 the Future, a 501(c)(3). The mission of Friends 4 the Future is to educate children and adolescents in making informed decisions that can have positive impacts on the quality of their lives today and in the future.

What inspired you to launch your business idea?
I saw a need and dove in head first, maybe not the best idea….but it’s slowly working itself out in a positive life changing way!

Friends 4 the Future was started in 2008 by my brother and I. I have always had a passion for educating children about food and the role it plays in your life. I became well versed in food labels and nutrition because of my daughter Karly. She had a severe egg allergy that was discovered when she was just over 1 after a trip to the emergency room. Over the years she was diagnosed with allergies and asthma along with SIBO (small intestinal bacteria overload), and skeletal issues. The doctors felt that many of the issues and sensitivities were due to Karly being a preemie born at 34 weeks. Throughout the journey and numerous diagnosis’ I realized that food plays the biggest role in health. Many people take health for granted.

Along with this, in 2010 I was hospitalized for one week due to 2 pulmonary embolisms. This was a life changing event for the entire family, being a single mom, this had a massive effect on myself and my children, Trevor and Karly. I was forced to cut back and work less as I focused on health and recovery.

During this time, Trevor played a part in the charity, enjoying pitching in whenever and wherever he could but recently after his own struggles with acne and food intolerances he became a vocal advocate for educating children on positive life lessons. Trevor was frustrated with the lack of life education for children and adolescents. His school, along with many others, offered no option for cooking classes, home economics, or even desperately needed financial literacy classes. Trevor’s goal is to take Friends 4 the Future to a national level with his vision for a brighter, healthier future. He is determined to develop a way to share his story and get the word out about creating a positive foundation for your future! Knowledge is power and many lack the necessities to make an informed decision about their future. With so many negative influences and detrimental role models out there we hope Friends 4 the Future can bring some positives. Trevor is adamant that kids want to learn and make good choices but many are left to be educated by mature video games and movies with little to no parental involvement. Friends 4 the Future is dedicated to following our dream. We want to give kids the knowledge they crave and direct them in a positive way towards a brilliant future. Please join us in our mission, check out our projects page for things we are up to and ways you can help. Thank you all for your encouragement and support!

What problem does your business or organization solve?
The goal of Friends 4 the Future is to stop the destructive escalation of childhood obesity through educational efforts aimed at assisting children and adolescents in creating lifelong changes generating healthy eating habits, embracing hearty physical activities, developing financial literacy and making positive lifestyle choices. We know many factors influence eating, physical activities, and life skills of children and adolescents. Schools and other educational settings can play a vital role in providing information, support, and opportunities for children and adolescents to learn and embrace healthy eating habits, healthy physical activity practices, and strong financial literacy. However, health, physical education, and life skills classes are continually being reduced, and in many cases eliminated from the school curriculum. The goal of Friends 4 the Future is to fill the void by providing children and adolescents with experiences to generate positive lifelong changes. With the support of individuals & organizations we can all work together to change how children think about food, physical activity, financial literacy.
