Startup Stories: From Mom to Entrepreneur


Tell us about your product or service.
My business is Get My Mom a Job, a total solutions employment firm specializing in the telecommute industry. Offering Full-Time and Part-Time W-2 positions for job seekers. In addition to the job database, my company provides all the needed tools and services a person needs to get the job. My mission is to empower all women, of all backgrounds and demographics to have the career and job they want and need.

What inspired you to launch your business?
As a mother of two, I always wanted to have choices in keeping my career as a professional while being a mother. I wanted to have the opportunity to work from home with a real company with a salary. The problem was that the “Work from Home” and “Telecommute” jobs were difficult to find with real companies. When doing these searches for myself personally it took months of going through: “Business Opportunities, Work from Home Businesses, Network Marketing, and Affiliate Marketing.” Not to disparage those opportunities, but I wanted and my family needed me to have a job, a career. It was through the months upon months of struggle that I figured out the system and the way to find real work at home jobs with Apple, GE, American Express, Aetna, Mozilla Firefox, and this is to name a very small few of the companies that have a huge amount of telecommute jobs. I knew that I was not alone in the struggle to find a work at home position so this is when I decided to develop my business.

What problem does your business or organization solve?
I believe that unlike other job database companies out there, we solve the real issues that people face. First, our streamlined database is easier to use for job seekers. Second, we provide every service imaginable to the job seeker: Customized Resumes, Video Cover Letters, Resume Blogs, Free Resume Analysis, Training, Job Connection Packages, plus the Job Database. Other firms supply either jobs or services, we do both. My company’s focus is on job seekers.

What has been your biggest challenge and how are you working to overcome it?
Like most start-up companies, I spend a lot of time with my marketing efforts. When I receive the coverage and advertising it provides massive results for the client and company. However, my struggle is the same of any other. Effective, consistent, marketing and advertising to drive traffic. Although my social media presence, brand, and other avenues are sustainable. It is the consistency in sharing the message day after day that is needed at this time! I am making significant in-roads in partnerships, social media, radio, and other avenues of advertising.

If you want to have the best of both worlds, having your career and family, it can be done with a telecommute job. Telecommute jobs are a real choice and are available with Fortune 500 companies. Plus a person can save anywhere between $7,000 – $12,000 a year by not having to commute and other expenses related to working outside the home.
