Startup Stories: Launching a Beauty Business at 58!

Fullips Founder, Linda Gomez

Tell us about your entrepreneurial product or service?
My company, Fullips, sells a lip enhancing beauty product. It is a small tool that is used to create fuller lips and a better lip line. As many women know, aging creates all sorts of unexpected changes, and thinner lips were one of those for me. I created the product for women, including myself, who would like to age as naturally as possible, and in this particular case did not want to go the injection route. Fullips enhancers are all completely made in the USA and of food grade, FDA approved material for our customer. It fits right in your makeup bag and can be used every day, or just for special occasions, when you want a fuller pout. The effects are meant to be temporary so that you can control the look, and whenever you touch up your lipstick, just touch up your lips at the same time!

What inspired you to launch your business idea?
I was a stay at home mother to five children and after all the babies had flown the nest there was no way I was just going to sit at home! I had an idea for a product and business, and firmly believe that it is never too late at any age to try or start something new. So I dove head first into the invention and manufacturing world and have been a busy bee ever since. There is an unbelievable amount to learn and can be difficult at times because there are lots of scams out there aimed at taking advantage of newcomers to the industry. So it has been a worthwhile, but slow process, in making sure that all of the right steps have been taken. Luckily, along the way I have had the opportunity to meet some amazing people that have helped build the business to where it is today.

What problem does your business or organization solve?
I believe my product allows women to solve a beauty issue without having to resort to invasive and expensive injections. I additionally hope to inspire others like myself that we can age gracefully, and do not necessarily have to go to extreme measures to look and feel our best. It is also why I started the Baby Boomer Beauty Blog, a place where women can openly discuss any issues, and come up with easy and inexpensive ideas to face the signs of aging together.

What has been your biggest challenge as an entrepreneur and how are you working to overcome it?
One of the biggest challenges I have, that I think many entrepreneurs face, is maintaining a balance between work and personal life. Running a successful business takes a lot of time and there is always another call or email to return, or a giant to-do list. And when we live in a world where you can be connected all of the time to your work, is it so tempting to want to do “just one more thing”. So I am attempting to resolve this by getting extra work done in the early or late hours of the day, and I constantly keep in check my priorities to ensure that I get in plenty of family and down time for a healthy balance.

Give us one word that people might use to describe you.

How has Project Eve helped you and/or your business?
Project Eve has given me the chance to see all of the other fantastic women out there building something great! It serves as a source of inspiration, and with so many gathered in one place, it creates a large network for opportunity. The attitude is positive and that type of environment is exactly what helps to create successful businesses!

Give us an insider tip that relates to your industry.
The beauty industry offers lots of great products, but expensive does not necessarily mean better. You do not have to spend a fortune to look or feel your best! And in the end, cliché as it is, beauty comes from within, and that cannot be bought.
