Startup Stories: Matchmaker

Lisa Schmidt Detroit Date Coach

Tell us about your entrepreneurial product or service.
I am an award nominated matchmaker, dating advice blogger and IDCA certified dating coach. As a dating coach, I am an adviser, cheerleader and the kick in the butt you need to have a higher dating IQ! The biggest improvement most of my clients see is in their confidence. My methods are “tough love” and help clients to step outside of their comfort zone.

One of my favorite sayings is, “If the payoff is great, than the effort cannot be mediocre”.

I pride myself on being connected with my clients needs and in tune with what will make them a better dater and everyday human being. When a client is happy and tells me so, I know I have done my job!

What inspired you to launch your business idea?
Detroit Date Coach is the product of years of unsuccessful dating and wishing that people just dated with better attitudes. I have worked hard to inspire people to be truthful with me, themselves and those they date; to create a more authentic and enjoyable dating experience.

What problem does your business or organization solve?
We live in a Mc Society, where everything is super served to the masses. In a day an age where people, men especially, turn to pick up artist techniques; I invite daters to learn how to date through self discovery and breaking out of their comfort zones. Masking insecurities with “moves” and simply trying to find one night stands, will never bring success in the long term. Through dating coaching, we tear away the layers and discover the person behind the facade or fears and unleash a man or woman with confidence.

What has been your biggest challenge as an entrepreneur and how are you working to overcome it?
Dating Coaching is fairly new to a lot of people. In the dating industry, there are so many choices. Dating sites, pick up artists–you name it. My biggest challenge is spreading the “gospel” of dating coaching and in turn gaining a clients trust. As a relatively recent concept to daters, it is hard for them to place value on coaching. Once the end result is achieved, of course the thank yous come flooding in.

How has Project Eve helped you and/or your business?
Your tweets, posts and support of women have inspired me to always strive harder and work toward my goals. As the daughter of an entrepreneur, women supporting women is something I was raised to believe and participate in.

Give us an insider tip that relates to your industry or startup story.
Always leave the other person guessing and wanting a little more. I know your mother told you that and maybe 100 other people too, but it is the dating truth.
