What does MomAboard do? Tell us about your entrepreneurial product or service.
MomAboard is a trip planning service that offers custom itineraries built by local moms for traveling families. MomAboard was built to combat the issue that parents planning a trip are faced with – too much information from too many untrustworthy sources. MomAboard itineraries are built by our city “Mombassadors” – local moms hand-picked for the love and knowledge of their cities and their understanding of how to navigate them as tourists. Each itinerary is built from scratch, taking into consideration the traveling family’s demographic makeup, interests, budgets and special needs.

MomAboard launched our trip planning service in 2015 and based on its success launched a move planning service in March 2016. We now offer service to 50 cities around the world and counting.
What inspired you to launch MomAboard?
I love to travel and expected to do so even after my kids, but found that the world sort of expected traveling parents to be content with nothing more imaginative than McDonald’s and Club Med. My kids were born in Sydney and San Francisco, and I traveled from those cities around the world. I found it hard to find good information – where should I buy diapers in Japan? Can I breastfeed in public in Dubai? As I started chronicling my own experiences, I soon had a following and realized that there was a more meaningful way to help parents travel more meaningfully with their kids. I knew the business had to be around connecting traveling parents with local moms and I started piloting different offerings. In September 2015, we launched the trip planning service with 25 Mombassadors and in March 2016, we launched the relocation service.
What problem does MomAboard solve?
Parents today are faced with information overload – there’s too much data from too many untrustworthy sources.
Overwhelmed parents have to sift through hundreds of reviews on TripAdvisor or Google and can still get it wrong. As a result, our research shows that a family vacation takes over 8 hours to plan. Who has that kind of time!?
I started MomAboard to connect traveling parents with the most relevant and reliable source of information – the local mother. Our network of “Mombassadors” are moms around the world who know their cities well and understand the experience of traveling with kids. They build each itinerary from scratch, completely tailored to the needs, budgets and interest of the traveling family and include everything tourist parents should know -from kid friendly activities, restaurants and hotels to babysitting, transportation and cultural assimilation advice.
We like to say we take the time and tantrums out of family travel planning.
What has been your biggest challenge starting MomAboard and how are you working to overcome it?
I think moms often start their own thing because the idea of being their own boss appeals to them. That’s definitely a perk of the job but being an entrepreneur is more than a full-time job. For me, MomAboard is kind of a third child requiring a lot of time and nurturing, and I have to make sure that I switch off from it enough to pay attention to my life outside work. For example: You’ll never catch me working between 3:30 and 8:30pm when I morph into a full-time mom!

What milestone do you hope MomAboard will have surpassed one year from now?
I hope to have helped 100,000 parents travel successfully and happily around the world! I think travel is the best education for kids and I am passionate about making it easier for families to expose their kids to different parts of the globe.
How has Project Eve helped you and orMomAboard?
In a world where we have mostly male role models to look up to in the business realm, it’s inspiring to hear from and interact with a community of women who share their professional and personal wins and losses. It helps break through the widespread social condition that successful business leaders come in a particular gender or color.
