Startup Stories: Muzio

Tell us about your entrepreneurial product or service.

We are Reshma Chattaram Chamberlin & Elizabeth Buchanan, and we recently launched a mobile app called Muzio!

Muzio is a simple and powerful tool for multimedia storytelling.

You can weave digital photos, videos, voice notes and text into bite-size bundles to save, share or enjoy – for work or play. Each story or “Muze”, is cleverly arranged in a vertical strip, taking you on an emotional journey from beginning to end.

What inspired you to launch your business idea?

Elizabeth went on an epic road trip from St. Louis to Cape Cod and back and had more than 500 photos and videos from her trip. She had a wonderful time, but as she shared her photos with me – I was bored. After about the 10th picture of trees and waterfalls, we realized there had to be a better way to translate an experience.

That is how Muzio was borne. The multimedia aspect of Muzio, clean design and the premise of storytelling really makes you feel like you took a journey with someone, even though you might be sitting halfway across the world!

What problem does your business or organization solve?

We believe in the art of story-telling. People are creating insane amounts of multimedia on their mobile devices, with no easy way to bring them all together to tell a cohesive narrative. Muzio is a way to bring together the media you already have in a way that you will be able to cherish and share just the way you want.

It provides an easy to use and delightful platform that will allow you to create stories that you can relive over and over again. Whether it is a first birthday, a day at the zoo, a marathon, a DIY project, a recipe, a sporting event, design inspiration etc. The possibilities are endless, with limitless Muzes to be made and shared.

What has been your biggest challenge as an entrepreneur and how are you working to overcome it?

Our biggest challenge as entrepreneurs is being able to do everything we want to do. As creative individuals you have so many ideas on how to make your product better, add features and take it to the next level. However, this needs to be balanced with sound business strategy, resources and what your users really crave and want. It is a challenge, but is also one of the most rewarding and fun aspects of creating a product.

Give us an insider tip that relates to your industry or startup story.

When launching a web or mobile product – design and usability are extremely important. If you have an app idea or have a startup and do not have that skill-set, I would highly recommend making usability a priority.
