Tell us about your entrepreneurial product or service.
Octo specializes in defining and/or redefining a company’s image. We design logos and brand identities, websites, print materials and large format graphics. Octo is a mid sized marketing and advertising group which specializes in graphic design.
What inspired you to launch your business idea?
I was inspired by my father who ran radio stations back in the 1970’s. I loved listening to many of the advertising campaigns which were being aired at the time and knew I would be good at creating the visual perceptions, voice and messaging needed to sell a product or service. I was good at it, was able to make money with it and feel blessed everyday that what I love is what I do.
What problem does your business or organization solve?
Octo Design Group is able to strategically define, re-define, position or re-position any company or organization so it is seen and heard within the marketplace needed to create sales and awareness. We think of ourselves as Pretty Powerful. We create pretty powerful messages that are not just pretty…. they work and yield results!
What has been your biggest challenge as an entrepreneur and how are you working to overcome it?
Managing expectations. Managing the expectations of our clients as well as our clients managing ours. I find in this fast paced world people are not taking the time to explain what they are looking to accomplish and spend the time needed to reach their goals. Websites, identities and marketing collateral require “discovery” and a well thought out plan. Clients need to be working WITH us. I like to consider Octo an expansion of their team. Internal support is a MUST for a successful product.
Our solution has been to explain our process in detail so everyone involved is informed of the steps needed to be taken as well as the role in which they need to play within the project.
