Tell us about your entrepreneurial product or service.
Queen Annes Lace is a one-stop shop for the bedroom. Featuring elegant retro-inspired lingerie, top-of-the-range sophisticated intimate products and luxurious bedroom accessories that heighten femininity and pleasure from a woman’s perspective.
Focussing on the highest quality to be enjoyed whether alone or sharing with your partner, and most importantly without judgment!

What inspired you to launch your business idea?
Queen Annes Lace was born over a conversation with a friend on how frustrating it is that sex is still aimed at men and what they want. Tired of coming across websites that sell cheap, gimmicky products with no insight to pleasure and uncomfortable wearing some of the skimpy underwear sold on other sites, I decided to open an online boutique for women. The name came to me early on in the process. I knew it needed to be feminine, romantic and classy. I stumbled across some flower meanings – the Queen Annes Lace flower, meaning delicate femininity. It fitted perfectly!

What problem does your business or organization solve?
Queen Anne’s Lace is a place for women to feel comfortable purchasing the best of sex in a tasteful environment. It’s a place where true gentlemen can buy sophisticated gifts for their loved ones. The portrayal of women’s sexuality has been cheapened by the sex industry and it’s high time women discover their own personal desires without trying to ‘fit in’ with what they believe are the expectations of society. Nor should ladies feel like it’s not OK to love sex and experience pleasure with or without a partner.

What has been your biggest challenge as an entrepreneur and how are you working to overcome it?
One of the things that astounds me is how much I have learned. I’ve never worked in retail, or in the online arena so all my knowledge had to be researched and accumulated from scratch based on a concept I had built up in my head. And the biggest challenge starts now – driving traffic to the site, with limited marketing knowledge and budget! But if not for the challenges the sense of achievement would not be nearly as high.

Don’t doubt yourself. If you have the passion and determination, the rest can be learnt, acquired and achieved. In terms of this business, don’t be afraid to be bold and say what most other people are thinking. I’ve often hesitated and pondered over whether I am being too risqué but those decisions have been my most popular.
