Tell us about your entrepreneurial product or service.
We are a school offering professional and personal development workshops in the area of human sexuality. We train sex therapists, sex educators, individuals and partners in a holistic view of sexuality including body, mind and spirit. We are an approved institutional provider of education for the American Association of Sex Educators, Counselors and Therapists. We offer social work and counseling credit hours for many of our workshops.
What inspired you to launch your business idea?
I was going to school to further my education in human sexuality and I was struck by the lack of support we as students were offered for the emotional stresses of this topic, which is such a huge one. It seemed that the scientific community was not interested in the emotional components, and the psychological community was not interested in the science. I wanted to create a place of learning about sex where students felt safe, welcome, challenged intellectually and supported emotionally and physically.
What problem does your business or organization solve?
There is very little training for professional counselors and therapists in the area of sexuality. I wanted to help them to enrich their understanding of this important area.
Most adults think of sex education as something for teenagers, yet they have very little knowledge in this area from an expert. They also have no idea how very much repression of certain aspects of sex interferes with health and wellness. When they have trouble in their intimacy or their bodies with sexuality, they often turn to doctors who are untrained in the topic or untrained therapists. Our school offers interesting, dynamic and powerful workshops for people to learn about themselves.
