Wistry: We hold the key to staying out of the doghouse.

Tell us about your entrepreneurial product or service.
Wistry is a wish list and reminder service for couples. This is a free service that allows users to add gifts from any site to a personalized homepage they can share with a partner. People can purchase gifts through their favorite retailer with the click of a button. Wistry does not sell any products. Our users set up custom reminders for any special occasion they choose. We do the nagging. No more cut out pictures of what you want left around the house.

Wistry is unique in that it targets the couple. After the honeymoon. When life gets real. All couples have birthdays, anniversaries and other special occasions EVERY year. And everyone wants something!

What inspired you to launch your business idea?
There was a need to help couples when it comes to gift giving and communicating. We lead busy lives these days, we love our partner but we aren’t mind readers. Wistry was created to help fill in the gaps and make giving and receiving fun again – not a chore. And it isn’t always about the gift – sometimes you would rather have a foot massage than a new necklace.

What problem does your business or organization solve?
Improve communication between couples. No more “you forgot my birthday” or “I never know what to buy you.”
We eliminate returned gifts – which saves time and money.
Help people remember special occasions – without partner nagging.
We save time by people being able to shop online.
We bring the joy back in giving – makes people feel good to buy something they know you want, there is still the element of surprise, and no more last minute runs to the mall just to buy the first thing you see.

What has been your biggest challenge as an entrepreneur and how are you working to overcome it?
MONEY. We have put all of our initial funds into the development of the site and now have the uphill battle of marketing with limited funds. We are using social media to our best ability to get the word out about our site. This includes blogging, Pinterest, Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and LinkedIn. We are also creating a grassroots movement in Houston by meeting with local moms groups, entrepreneurial support groups like 1Million Cups and other networking groups. We utilize email marketing through Mail Chimp as well to try and help spread the word to a broader market .

How has Project Eve helped you and/or your business?
Knowing that their are so many women out there that are starting up their own businesses gives us motivation and encouragement. We follow Project Eve through Twitter and it has become a GREAT source for articles that have a direct impact on our business.

Give us an insider tip that relates to your industry or startup story.
We have learned that social media is imperative to our success – but we have to remember to keep it personal and real. Everyone is bombarded daily with thousands of messages vying for their money or time – if you keep it personal – people will relate to your post/tweet/blog – you will have a better chance of catching their eye.
