The ART of Gratitude

Opening our eyes to the blessings that surround us, is one of the most powerful ways we can increase our happiness.  Taking time to reflect in gratitude is scientifically proven to:

    • Deepen our connections and influence with key people in your life
    • Improve productivity and creativity in all areas
    • Tap into full happiness of life

This year my family and some of this blogs followers embarked on a year long journey to practice the 8 Habits of Happiness.  Some of us are knocking it out of the park in integrating the 8 Habits of Happiness into their lives.  Some, like me, have had starts-and-stalls along the way.  When I am stalled I always take a couple days to refocus on gratitude and my happiness increases.  Since the whole purpose of our 2014 experiment is to invite more happiness into our lives, this gives me the fuel to get back on program in incorporating the other habits into my life.

If increased happiness in what you want out of life, I invite you to take the 30 day ART of Gratitude challenge.

A – Accept yourself where you are at!

Often what stands in the way of us embracing the blessings in our life is that we are waiting ‘until’.

…until I loose weight

…until I have more money

…until I am a better person

These are thoughts I have had before. Then I realized I can’t wait ‘until’ to start living. I will never be perfect. I will likely never be exactly who I want to be. But I will always have people who will love me and have good things in my life, if I open my eyes to them. My first step was to recognize that I am worthy of happiness right now, just the way I am.

R – Record praise worthy events in your life everyday!

Whether you did something you’re proud of or someone showed you great kindness, make a note of it. Sunny days, friendly gestures, accomplishments, unexpected joys, and cherished people, are all worthy of taking note of today. And they may be just what you need to remember in the future. Sadly, unless you record it today, you won’t remember all the blessing that you have experienced. Record three to five things that you have gratitude for everyday. It will change your life.

T – Trust the world is a friendly place!

Do you believe that you will end up happy? You are probably right!

Our expectations of how people will treat us often come true. Why not make a habit believing that you will end up with the life you want?
