The Enough Woman vs. The And Woman

I ran across some notes I jotted down from an NAPW (National Association for Professional Women) Conference I attended in 2014. One of the quotes from Randi Zuckerberg leapt off of the page. She mentioned something about being an “AND WOMAN”. Meaning, you can be, for example, a wife AND a mother AND a corporate professional AND an entrepreneur, etc. I happen to be all of those things, in addition to several other “jobs/responsibilities and admittedly, it can sometimes be overwhelming. Fast forward to a few weeks back when I was texting with a friend of mine, telling her that I needed to slow down because I was in the midst of a very busy travel period and she then said that I was ” “not SUPERWOMAN, but ENOUGH WOMAN. Hmmmm…that resonated as well!

So, which one is it? Am I an AND WOMAN or am I ENOUGH WOMAN?

I’ve decided that I can be both, but my AND’s may not necessarily happen all at once. And, that is ENOUGH. I can’t be everywhere and do everything, all the time. There is a time and place for everything and I have to make smart choices as to how to best utilize my time and talents. Every day, I need to assess and reassess my priorities and first make sure that I am taking care of myself so that I can be of value to others. Next, I need to delegate! I have a wonderful resource of family and friends that surround me. I shouldn’t be hesitant about asking them to assist, when need. Thirdly, I’ve got to take it one day at a time. I can’t miss out on what may happen today by being worried about what might happen tomorrow!

I say all this as if I am talking to myself, because I am. I am not an expert yet, hopefully this will have imparted perspective that helps someone else’s journey. Because we are all a work in progress…
